Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Still getting tons of snow reports of waist deep powder and not too cold at mo max temps hovering around freezing.

just to clarify - im a UK based wine merchant, amateur skier so this isnt some veiled sales pitch about the joys of Norway and all things moose.

Fantastic conditions in both Voss and Myrkdalen close by. Best Christmas conditions in ages...

@plectrum, Hemsedal may be OK, given snow depths quoted by resort - don't know what off piste is like ATM. Fly to Oslo and drive to resort. About a 3.5 hour drive.

Hi all - so ive been doing a bit more research.

Heathrow direct to Bergen can be done for about £160 rtn takes 1hr 55.
Bergen to Voss is a train ~ 1hr 15 and ~ £30 return.
private BnB in the local youth hostal is £30 per night.
Ski pass is about £30 per day.

At present I think it has the best powder conditions in Europe. No idea what the off piste/back country is like its probably not uber steep but then Im not uber good!

Very tempted indeed. Anyone interested could go say anytime in w/c 26 Jan - great to have a ski buddy or more to share guide costs etc.

I can ski, I can tour and happy to try most slopes aside from very steep or extreme but then often there is another route to meet at lower point.

Voss is having a great season. Piles of snow. Had a stinker last year IIRC. But this year has been great.

Conditions in Western part of Norway is epic at the moment but the avalanche conditions are really high at the moment due to heavy snowfall, wind and rapid increase in temp. The defence had to be called in yesterday to clear snow of roofs on government buildings yesterday. This video is an indication of the great conditions:

@plectrum, how do the timings work out for flights/train connections? Is it possible to fly out on (e.g.) a Friday afternoon and still get a train connection to resort that evening? I can't get time off work at the moment unfortunately, but a weekend/long weekend with nice connections would definitely be interesting for the future!
