Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowboard wax recommendations - same as for skis...?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I've recently started tuning and hot waxing my own boards, and have run short on the Dakine wax that came with the tuning kit. I've seen a lot of recommendations on here for various warm/cold waxes, but they all seem to refer to the best waxes for skis, rather than snowboards.

Can anyone tell me if the same recommendations would apply, or should I be looking for snowboard-specific wax? There are so many brands available, I'm struggling to choose which to go for. Most of my boarding is on-piste in Austria, with a little off-piste thrown in. I've known the temperature to get down to -18C, but the last couple of years have been much warmer.

I don't race, but I'm after something fast that won't break the bank. I've heard (mainly) good things about Hertel "Super Hot Sauce" All Temperature wax, but can't find anywhere in the UK that stocks large bricks of it anymore.

Can anyone recommend a brand and type to go for?

I've used data wax universal on my board for the last few trips and it's been fine - all bar my last trip to Canada where it was -27c still air temp at the base and the board felt a bit slow (compared with other boards on some flat run outs).

I'm off to Canada again this year - if anyone can suggest a good cold temp wax that'd be great.

@rogg,

Try Data Wax Blue. I use it on Tignes glacier when the temps are - 10 & below. Always seems to work well.

Thanks Stewart. I was just on ebay looking and thought to myself, well if the datawax universal is good for around use, i guess their cold might be good as well.

I'd love to get back to Tignes soon, haven't been there for about 5 years now and the pull is getting greater. Hope you have a good season.

Hi, I'd really love some help with how to wax my new board. I bought some eco wax, and some eco base cleaner. I've sprayed a little bit of the base cleaner on a cloth and quickly rubbed it over the board, then I waxed it as it says online, melting it and leaving it. I literally did this a minute or two ago, have I done anything wrong? Puzzled thanks Smile

So long as you had the waxing iron at the right temperature and kept it moving it will be fine. Now you just need to scrape off the excess wax. Brush to a polished finish for best results Happy
