Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Big increase in helmet use by US skiers

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Ongoing research by Vermont Snow Sports Research Team, which commenced in 2002 reveals a "near doubling" in helmet use by adults during this period. But the study also indicates that helmet use by children is levelling out "at around 70%".

The researchers point out: "The medical community bears some responsibility for the low use of helmets due to past confusion over their effectiveness ... new research has shown that wearing a helmet does not increase the chance of sustaining a neck injury or lead to reckless behavior on the slopes."

Any comments?

Sorry, David. I must admit I was a bit wary of running this one. Maybe we should put a lid ...

Paranoias the reason everyone's wearing helmets after reading about all the out-of-shape drunks from the UK on the ski slopes.

So you don't think its a coincidence that WTFH is in the states skiing this week and helmet usage doubles?

WTFH wears a helmet because he worried about people hitting him over the head with large vegetables.

I was very appreciative of wearing the plastic when doing a 180 on the aforementioned helmet - one of the lads that was with us had never seen that before..........he reckoned doing the 180 on ones head should earn extra points

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

 You know it makes sense.

Sorry, but just to dart back on topic for a second. I was chatting to the bloke who runs a ski shop near here - he'd just taken delivery of a load of this seasons kit and we were having a look at it.

He said that up to a couple of years ago he sold maybe two adult helmets a season, and mainly to racers. Part of the delivery was about fifty helmets and he expects to shift most of them before March. So, obviously, it's not just the US where usage is n the increase.

Now then, break dancing........................................... snowHead

It was noticeable in Zurich the other week how many people are buying helmets this year. We did because we managed to get them free so it would be silly not to...
