Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

@Pants0440, I only replaced my the. 12yr old boots last season and only them because due to the compacting down of the liner they were too big and my foot was sliding around in them too much.

@Pants0440, if they fit properly and haven't been stored in direct sunlight (and even that's maybe no problem) they'll be fine.

welcome to snowheads, @Pants0440. I agree with the previous posters - if they look OK, they'll be OK unless your feet have changed (haven't had any pregnancies in the last 10 years by any chance?).

We once had linings eaten away by rats for nesting materials. But the boots had been stored in a cellar in a rented house - and were overdue for replacement anyway.

If your 20 you may have a problem Very Happy As already stated if they were/are comfy then they will be fine - I'd just check that all the clasps work and screws still work ok. And bindings generally still work the same way - welcome back to skiing snowHead

They will be fine if they fit and are comfortable - yes technology has probably improved but not sure if you would notice a difference.

@Pants0440,

Welcome to snowheads, They will be fine if you looked after them and preferably did not have them stored in sunlight. I am still using my old lange boots that are circa 1992? Though I did stop for over 17 years and boots stored for that period.

Just check buckles and mounting points are ok check for damage at the ankle rivet and for any damage from bending the shell to put them on/off.

@ Speed098 This post is only my opinion, I know you did not seek opinion so please don't take offence, so here goes nothing.
Boots from '92 are antiques and should be replaced . The modern parabolic ski had not been invented in '92 and the way old skis and boots worked was different. Boots are now made of entirely different materials and you will find a modern ski works best with a modern boot. Yes the vintage 92's use the same shape ends to interface with the binding and they have buckles but that's about the limit of the similarities. My duckbill leather telemark boots are fun to use but can't be comprared to my ntn tele gear. My advice (not that you asked for any) would be to try a rental boot for a day a feel the difference. I think you would be amazed.

@Charliee,

I have some Head Raptor 150's and just bought some new previous season Rossignol Radical WC. I think you may be surprised that the Rossi boots are very similar to my old Lange XR9 race in fact almost identical other than colour and the fit almost identical. The Head are a different fit but just need a tiny bit of customization to fit perfectly.

I have had no issue using any of the 3 pairs of boots with modern skis. In fact at the ski demo at CFe my old Langes were more than upto the job of working the Kneissl Red Star SC skis I tried and loved so much ( I used the Langes because the heads are a complete and utter Bug*er to get on and off, and I had only just got the Rossi and they are a softer flex so did not use them ).
Plastics used for the shells have changed admitted but a boot that fits like a glove has zero integrity issues and transmits every input from feet to ski will work with old style or new style skis the only question is can the skier.

Canting , forward lean adjustment , micro adjustable buckles racing liners inserts to increase forward lean on top of the boots own adjustment and power straps where around in those antiquated days as well wink

No offense taken debate is good snowHead

Only just seen your post as I was near Malaga looking at Sierra Nevada and praying for enough snow to ski, unfortunately the god of snow was busy listening to Snow patrol rather than me Crying or Very sad

Oh and lastly would not touch rental boots with a barge pole when free skiing unless absolutely no other option. If I had been teaching the other half at Sierra Nevada I would have put up with them JUST !
Rental boots are never a substitute for your own boots that fit properly and I think I would struggle to find rental full on race boots with at least a 140 flex. The first thing anyone looking at buying their own skis and boots should buy is the boots they make the biggest difference to continuing to improve.

@Charliee, per @speed098, no.

Not at all correct. Not all wrong, but not all right.

Alpine boots haven't really changed at all, nothing really new, plastics maybe, but not universally. Rear entry boots have all but disappeared. AT boots have arrived.

And none of this will affect how they ski.
