Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Woohoo, since we can't really go during term time any more, we have bit the bullet and are going to St Anyon Xmas week.

We're in catered chalet, but any local advice on what to expect in town that week - will it be quiet or chaos, or somewhere in between?
Do the mountain restaurants etc shut on Xmas day?

It will probably be somewhere in between - the big busy week is the New Year week.

The mountain restaurants may close early on 24th Dec. so that everyone can spend their traditional Christmas evening with their families. Dec 25th is more like Boxing day in the UK and the restaurants will be open. Once you have experienced Christmas in the Alps you will never want to spend it in the UK again.

Everything @quinton, says is true. Christmas Eve will be the big event dinner, Christmas day is a ski day with most folk even more cheerful than normal. We spent last Christmas in Lech and loved it. If your chalet chef has a night off it's worth booking a restaurant in advance. Just have a wander down the main street on your first/second evening and check out the options. If you like Austrian Food I'd recommend the Fuhrmannstube. It's in the main street but just beyond the pedestrianized zone.

If you're staying in a UK TO catered chalet, then Christmas dinner will usually be on 25th Dec. If you are in Austrian-run accommodation, it probably be on 24th Dec.
