Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I know holidayloverxx had her car repatriated after she had her accident in Austria, and that it wasn't her holiday insurance company that did it, but whoever she was insured for breakdown cover.

@altis, I've had me and my car repatriated a couple of times using ADACPlus cover. I did ask about returning me to the UK and I was told that they return you to the home address you have given them. As I live in Germany it ain't such a big deal for them or me. I was in the ADAC office in Rosenheim today and informed that I had the premium cover and just need to send them the receipts (originals) when I return. They have even offered to pay for some treatment I had for a severe sinus infection last Christmas/New Year which I had written off as I had forgotten I was insured by them. Embarassed Toofy Grin

@Hells Bells, I think holidayloverxx had her car returned under her holiday insurance but it was subcontracted to a specialist company - she had to wait a while and the car was securely stored at a garage in a nearby village. Luckily it was moved out before that village was badly affected by some storm flooding which did a lot of damage a couple of weeks after her car left the premises.

When my insurers offered to repatriate me when I broke my pelvis they weren't going to repatriate the car. I didn't want to go home anyway - it was easier to stay in a small apartment on one level than in a 3 storey house at home. But then they did subsequently pay for 2 drivers to fly out and get a taxi to Les Saisies. (2 drivers because that meant saving an overnight in a hotel). Reasonably enough they didn't pay for the journey home by car as I'd have been making that anyway.

I did have breakdown insurance so it's possible that would have paid to get the car back - I never explored that as it suited me better to wait till I was more mobile and could go back in a normal way, by car.

Just to be clear, I was enquiring about personal repatriation not vehicular.

@cstreat, I found it lying around on the web somewhere. I wish I could read the mag too. I have a Zertifikat Deutsch als Fremdsprache so ought to be able to make a decent fist of it. But that was years ago and I've lost too much vocab now. Most of it goes straight over my head.

@altis, they have repatriated me and my car three times now (dislocated shoulder, ruptured ACL and a broken ankle). I did ask what if I wanted to go home to my parents in the UK and they said that repatriation was to the home address on the policy.
