Well, this is a conversation starter for 10....
Mrs NBT and I have spent the weekend looking after our nephew - he's 2 and a half now. Well, I say spent the weekend, I had to work but that's another matter .. GRRRRRR
Anyway, given that he's never been away from his Mum and Dad for more than 24 hours before, we decided that while they spent 4 days in New York, we'd move in to Mrs NBT's mum's huse with him, so he'd be in a familiar environment (bear with me, it's all relevant). This was nice for me as it meant sky telly and access to eurosport  - and CBeebies  .
Eventually tiring of endless hours of CBeebies I changed to eurosport to find coverage of the women's races from the states and the men's races from Val Despair. After the initial wailing at the loss of Postman Pat and co, I was amazed to find that the young tyke actually enjoyed the skiing.
I was even more amazed when he asked if "t'Auntie and t'Uncle" (good northern lad, see) would take him skiing "when he's an older boy".
Hence the question. We can take it as given that Mum and Dad won't want to go skiing *at all*. Auntie and Uncle NBT are more than happy to take him, so we need to find a suitable resort - but (and there's always a but), there is a further consideration
Granny may wish to come (or rather be persuaded to come so Auntie and Uncle's precious skiing time isn't curtailed  ) . Granny's sister lives in Switzerland, about an hour south of Zurich. Given this, we're thinking it may be an dea to choose a resort within a reasonable driving distance of Granny's sister, and with a fair bit of nice walking / scenery / shops suitable for Ladies Who Lunch. Vague plan (for me, anyway) is that we'd fly out to resort and Granny's Sister would drive down to join us for the week, we'd all stay in the same hotel.
We're both reasonable skiiers so not too bothered about the skiing for us, it's more about the usual easy access to beginners slopes / sledging / shops for Granny etc
Wengen (just thought I'd get it in before DG Orf). Any others? Suggestions for the best time to do it would be appreciated as well.
I'm getting in the question now so we have a few months to "persuade" people about the destination and timing;)

nbt, Engelberg is easy to reach from Zurich, and I recall seeing a kindergarten set-up there (if it's needed). It has great sightseeing, with the Titlis revolving cablecar and glaciers ... and some lovely skiing.
The village has a lot of appeal. Can't remember the beginner slopes - maybe check out the piste map for yourself. March would probably be a nice time to go there.

Just because I might suggest the beautiful mountain scenery of Wengen doesn't mean it's not a good idea

nbt, Don't know how far it is from Grannys sister but Davos has a great infrastructure for Grannies with loads of restaurants, horse drawn sleighs, x country skiing to watch childrens starter area at Bolgen readily viewable by Granny. I have been there before with a nonskiing Granny who loved it.
Never any guarantees with weather but I would go for early March for a combination of decent snow in beginners area and warmer weather for Granny.

Davos wold be fine I reckon, she drives to her holiday home which is a good 6 hours - just didn;t want people suggesting Les Arcs or the like! My idea is she'll drive to resort rather than fly, rather than drive there and back each day

David@traxvax, from Zurich ? I thought that would be conservative, how far's Zurich from Geneva ?

brian, sorry I thought you meant from Calais, I've driven from Zurich to Courchevel which took about 6 hrs. Zurich to Geneva takes a lot longer than you think.
