Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Please have a look at the questions above ... and ...

Do you belong to any other membership organisations related to sports/holidays?

If you're a non-member of the SCGB you're one of around 97% of British snowsports enthusiasts. What would convince you that membership would benefit you, and others?

[I haven't asked these questions on behalf of the Club, though it might read like that! It would just be interesting to read answers and comments]

David Goldsmith,

Local Rugby Club

If Snowheads closed I would join the SCGB to chat to folks. I would also then benefit from "the perks".

EDIT:I had only just started browsing SCGB when the forum was closed. Had it remained open I am fairly sure I would have joined as a member, just as I felt duty bound to contribute to SnowHeads.

c and will remain c for the foreseeable future! I can see the benefits of the guiding service but am rarely in the resorts where it's on offer, I don't think that any of their discounts are enough to tempt me as we mostly DIY and I get to read a friends copy of the magazine (which is pretty good)...I can't see anything else in Membership to make me want to join....

no plans to ever join, don't see the point. There's nothing i can't get elsewhere for the same/better value. Now if you'd asked my about about www.snowboardclub.co.uk i'd certainly think about it, as it seems more "organic"

I belong to lots of other sporting clubs, that are exactly that a sporting club, i don't feel the SCGB is even close to that ethos!

In my younger eyes the "Ski Club of Great Britain" is more of a brand/shop/holiday company to me than a "club" - probably not what it was originally but it certainly is now. The best way i can think to see if i valued it would be to ask myself if i'd miss it if it suddenly went away and would that be detrimental to British sliding - I certainly wouldn't miss it if it disappeared and i doubt British sliding would suffer as a result! Very Happy Little Angel

I've been aware of the SCGB for many years and was amazed to see the level of animosity shown towards it by some snowheads. So I joined to investigate what the real truth is. What I found was modern, friendly and inclusive, professionally run club, which offers me many ways to enhance my enjoyment of skiing. I look forward to skiing with the reps and going on one of the holidays this season.

Golf club, sailing club.

I left the SCGB sometime ago and Tim has stated exactly the reverse of my thoughts on the SCGB. Or The ski club as 'they' instruct us to call it now. The forum in it's present state does nothing to enhance the clubs appeal. (Although not a member I still have the odd visit when a friend logs on.)

Was a partial member iirc (magazine only?). When that was up for renewal, I decided it was a waste of cash, plus I'm sure they owed me 1 magazine. So that and the ability to not use the forum without paying for full membership made ma come here instead.
I don't plan to (re)join, although I could be persuaded to cough up temporary membership for free guiding if I happened to be somewhere on my todd in unfamiliar surroundings.
For non-UK residents it makes no sense. All the extras like SC holidays, insurance etc. basically require you to be a UK resident skier, which I am not.

d. I joined a few years ago because they were doing a very good deal on a holiday in La Plagne for Christmas. It was an excellent ski holiday, skiing with reps everyday, mostly off piste with transceivers etc, and four families worth of youth (various ages) skiing with a rep everyday, which they all loved.

I've kept my own membership but cancelled the rest of the family this year. I look at the forums every now and then, but they don't exactly wow me, and if I have want to know something I know I'll get a much bigger (better?) response on here.

I saved almost twice my membership fee with the discount with Ellis Brigham this month, so I'll continue to be a member, if only for that.

Local rugby club ( Park House FC - gratuitous plug!)

I'm not sure that there's really anything which would cause me to join. My impression is of an organisation which is irrelevant to me and my interest in skiing.

c for me too.

I was a member many years ago and if I was to get something where I could benefit from the current discounts I might be tempted again, but not at the moment.

( BTW - nobody forces people to come onto the SCGB threads here; if it is not of interest, or does not comply with snowHead T&C, then bypass the thread ).

Think you were all supposed to click the thingy at the top of the page to register your "Vote" ! rolling eyes

I was a member, am a member, but only started using internet and hence visiting any chatrooms regularly after MO day.

The availability or not of a chatroom (open or closed ) would not affect my membership - holidays, discounts and reps are the main benefits to me - and of course a free magazine.

After in excess of 10 years of membership I cancelled my subscription earlier this year, I felt that the SCGB was no longer the club that I'd joined but was becoming an increasingly commercial organisation, in addition I was uneasy about the very high percentage of SCGB reps on the committee especialy as I interpret the constitution of the club to say that no one employed by or working for the club should be allowed to be on the committee, I feel that this domination of the committee by the reps could potentially cause serious conflicts of interest, finally I felt that the introduction of the green wristbands in aid of the enviroment was poorly thought out, whilst I'm given to understand that the bands themselves are made of recycled materials I do not believe them to be enviromentaly friendly.

Will I join? In view of my plans there may be an advantage in doing so, but it would only happen if there were not an obvious discrepancy in the arrangement. It's seems that the club is inducing its membership drive with (apparent but not real) loss leader discounts to maintain and increase membership numbers for sponsorship leverage and income generation in other commercial endeavors.

I quit my membership as a direct result of the decision to close the forum to non-members.

I've posted very little to this forum, but lurk a great deal and get a lot of useful information too.

Oh yes, and my son & I met a couple of you guys out in VT a couple of years back, which was pleasant.
