Hi folks,this winter thinking of skiing/climbing somewhere other than my usual switz,france,italy norm.So a friend came up with slovenia,anyone been,best place to base,whats it like cheers.

Cheers,ive read some stuff about it being cheap and a great place to ski.But also whats important for me is a great nitelife,but cant realy find much chat.Weve still got a month or so to do some research, dont want to bollox up our first trip.lol.

Stayed in Bled a few years back for a long weekend.. No great skiing there - just one run basically - but good restaurants and nightlife. Pub we found there was rocking. Everyone dancing on the floor from mid evening onwards to Europop. We hired a car and went to Kranjska Gora on 2 of the days - about 90 mins away from memory. Good skiing.Smallish area but enough to keep you occupied for a day or two. The other day we spent at
Kobla which had 3 chairlifts in a row to the top of a large hill - almost like novelty fairground ones with a slack chain you hook across the front to stop you falling out. And soooo slow. From the top there was an icy track back to the bottom where there was a hut with outdoor benches selling good and cheap beer. I'm making it all sound a bit grim perhaps, but wasn't at all. We had a ball. The people n Slovenia were really friendly. It's a beautiful country. Just don't expect world class skiing.

Ok thanks pjd for the input.Been looking at Kranjska gora Gorenjska, to get some ski mountaineering done,that would suit us more, be great if it works out.

I went kayaking on the Soca a couple of summers back, staying on Bovec I think. Really scenic place, and (though they were closed) there were a couple of mountain guiding outfits with photos of really nice looking terrain in the windows.
