Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Hire in the UK (South East England)

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Japan in January and because of the location where we will be skiing I have been advised to bring skis with me from the UK. Can anyone recommend a good ski hire shop in the south east of England (including London as I can get there relatively easily) that will be able to hire me some powder ski's for 2 weeks in January?

Cheers
Bod

Thanks chrikoff. There is one in Sevenoaks and they are seeing what they can do for me as they don't carry what I am after in their normal hire stock. I'm looking for something with a minimum of 100mm under foot. I'll certainly give the Canterbury shop a ring.

Try SnowLab which is a very good shop in Hailsham (near Eastbourne) that offer wide skis in their ski rental programme.

Having been to Japan, I'd say there's no need to take skis with you. Just rent when you're out there. It'll save you the hassle of hauling skis (and the cost of doing so) with you. There were plenty of skis to pick from in the rental shops - mainly Armada JJ's.

ThanksMarkScott, just what i was looking for and scarily they have the exact model I was looking for and by the looks of it they will post them to me FOC.

Chrisssyg, Thanks for the advice. We were recommended not to try and hire in Japan as the areas we will be skiing have a limited choice. It's no hassle hiring here now I've found out where and the Virgin flight I'm taking has free carriage on sports equipment. I'm not a fan of taking skis with me as I normally ski in Europe and find hiring easier and cheaper than having my own pair(s).

Gämsbock, We are skiing in the south area called Honshu, but will be travelling around quite extensively. I've never been to Japan before so am just following the advice of the company that run the guiding. If we were going North then it would be a different matter.
