Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

St. Anton Group Advice Needed

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi All,

Just looking for a bit of advice about a potential group ski trip (20 people) to St. Anton.

We're looking for a Thursday to Sunday trip (2.5 days skiing) in late January 2015, but are struggling to get any traction with the hotels / tourist office in St. Anton. We're looking for bed and breakfast only (preferably a hotel, but flexible) close to the town centre and to the lifts - but everybody seems to be refusing to take anything other than a Saturday to Saturday / Sunday to Sunday full week booking.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions before we just give up and settle for another resort?

Thanks in advance!

Most places won´t be interested in such a short booking until short notice, once they realise that the rooms will be empty anyway. Your best hope of an earlier booking is probably with the more expensive hotels. You´ll probably find the same problem in all other resorts too. The good news is that it´s a quite part of the season.
Good luck

I've been in this boat a good few times, with loose overlapping groups of 8 - 15 say. You absolutely will not meet your criteria (all together and in the town centre) booking in advance. Places will hold out to get a booking for a full week rather than take your booking (they'd basically be losing three nights paying guests if they took your offer, doesn't make sense for them). The only places you'll get in advance will be absurdly expensive or very far out of town.

If you wait until the week before and use the website they have an email back system, you just input what you want and then the individual establishments email you back their offers, then some availability will come up. But even then you haven't a hope of getting a group that size into the same place. I was in St Anton for a short break three years running (March each time) and we could never get more than three or four people in one place so we just ended up all staying in different places, which suits the carnage of the resort apres anyway.

One year we got about eight of us into a hotel on a town about 20 minutes by bus down the road (was it Stumm or something?). Was actually very reasonable, wellness and decent grub, would do it again.

You will find that policy in most ski resorts that are busy, but St Anton is prob worse for it than a quieter place.

EP123, No hotels will be interested unless you reserve for a week, unless you leave it a week before and ring round but id be surprised if youll all get in same place, no worries though - St Anton is a small town so youll be eating together in evenings etc. Caveat though - if its a big snow season (and it drfinitely will be wink ) youre taking a big risk in waiting because locals book up heavily nearer the time.

A suggestion, try the buisness hotels in Dornbirn or Innsbruck and jump on the train daily, you can prebook trains and they are super quick........they'll do weekend deals for you.

If you try http://www.snowtrex.co.uk/?sei_id=7&code=8765 They can create you a personalised offer. I just had a quick search and they had the MOOSERKREUZ ***
for €402 for 3 nights including a lift pass on Jan 29th, not including a flight mind.

skiorboard, Looks like a brilliant deal, all 20 in one room? Its a heck of a trek down into town in ski boots though, although the #3 ski bus stops nearby......I think they might have a free hotel bus, maybe check before booking.

Nah that will be probably 4 or 5 rooms i'm guessing? Bit of a nightmare like you say in ski boots unless you get the bus.

It isn't showing available on their website so maybe a problem with Snowtrex website or they have an allocation at that hotel.

EP123,

Best wait until nearer the time & do last minute or change your plan to Wednesday to Saturday (much more likely to get a booking) & offer to pay the whole week.

Problem is St Anton & many other resorts run a Saturday to Saturday (change around) arangement.

If they accept a booking for Thursday to Sunday it overlaps 2 weeks effectively blocking a full 2 weeks income for the establishment.

Also, St Anton has never promoted itself as weekend/long weekend resort but a Holiday (1 or 2 Weeks) Experience.

The majority of weekenders come from Germany by car & they stay out of town or just come for the day.

BTW. Your not the first person to ask this question
