Poster: A snowHead

As anyone had a ski weekend in Passo Tonale?
I have found cheap flights to Bergamo which seems about two hours drive away and accommodation looks cheap too.
Just wondering what people make of the place?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I guess it depends on when you're going - as mentioned, Tonale in January is pretty cold and bleak, in spring it's full of school kids.
If you've got your flights to Bergamo then you can get to Aprica easily or Bormio is just 30 minutes on from Aprica. If you're looking for a quick and easy trip from Bergamo then you drive passed Montecampione on the way to all these places

It's very early season, Dec 13 th.
That's why I am considering paso Tonale as it's high altitude.

I went to P Tonale and 3 years ago, We went for a week (through thomson). We are intermediate skiers (enjoy cruisy blues a couple of reds). Plenty of slopes for a long weekend (100km I think). The last 2 days of the week we were starting to get a little bored of the runs (only because we were doing the blues and few red through) We didnt touch the blacks of glacier. Place is OK. Views are great from the top but the town itself isnt v nice (all along a road with no atmosphere). Good value prices on drinks etc and food is nice in hotels but snack bar'ie on the slopes. There are some great long runs around the mountains and sure owuld be fine for a long weekend. I wouldnt go again purely because I want to ski new places but would recommend to people who are on a budget

I went early Jan 3 years running to Passo Tonale (through work) and never saw a cloud! Weather can often be fantastic. There's a lovely long red through the trees down to Ponte di Legno (the next resort down the valley) that accesses a load more skiing, including several blacks and some nice restaurants & cafes. None of the blacks in the resort are very steep. There was one very lively umbrella bar on the slopes when I was last there plus a few other nice bars in town. I'd really recommend it for a weekend if you're happy skiing on the pistes.

Thanks for the reply Ben. Looks like we may leave it until another time as we are traveling the weekend of 12th December and it could be a bit early for the area in general.
