Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Beginner courses in UK

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

I have a couple of friends coming out this season who are complete beginners. I want them to have a couple of days at one of the snowdomes. Can anyone recommend any courses for complete beginners. They live near Cambridge and so can do MK, Hemel, Tamworth or any others within a reasonable distance.

Thanks in advance for your assistance Happy

That's my understanding, having looked into this last year for my sister.

The Hemel instructor she ended up having was very good (can't recall his name).

No they don't, but they'd be able to recommend somebody for private lessons. For groups, I guess it's luck of the draw.

In the case of Hemel, you'can't ask for a specific (Hemel) instructor - it's down to the roster and method of allocation, AFAIK.

googiew, wherever they go get them to go in the summer or early autumn, it's much quieter and I don't know about all the other domes but the Chill Factore in Manchester has some amazing summer offers on beginner courses so I guess other places will have too. Also worth considering is whether the day long courses would suit or whether they might be better to spread the course out more. Some people find the learn to ski in a day courses incredibly hard work. Depends on the type of person and their fitness levels. I've seen a few people call it a day at lunchtime which is a waste.

I would say unless someone is very active doing sports like running cycling badminton etc then do not do a full day course even if you manage the full day you will be shattered and not enjoy it as much.
2hrs a day over a week will be a lot better for most people.

I did a learn to snowboard in a day course in Milton Keynes - some years ago, but I was still the oldest participant by miles. Beginner boarding is more strenuous than beginner skiing IMV (and definitely more painful wink ). It was hard work but we all managed it OK. I was very stiff in the following days but a day course was really the only way I could do it, as I live some distance away. I would say any reasonably active person should be able to manage a "learn in a day" course if they are keen - you don't need to be a super-jock. But yes, somebody very inactive would struggle.

and hellish expensive in a snowdome

on the mountain a beginner would have to cope with at least 4 hours a day and at altitude.

I agree with Pam

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Not always.......

It's worth checking the special offers on the Websites for the domes. I had a two hour beginners group Wednesday evening, it cost them each under £25 pounds and that included a free drink. It was an enormous group of 2.

nothing wrong with being knackered, when you've achieved something worthwhile. It's a good feeling. Sunday night I expect to be sailing back to Chichester from Cherbourg overnight. I shall be thoroughly knackered - but then a hot shower, and breakfast on a platform which stays still and doesn't throw your coffee all over the shop - nothing like it!

You can request a specific instructor for a private lesson; as long as the person is not already booked out, you can usually get whom you want. If you choose a popular instructor it may mean you need to have some flexibility on time/date.

Some of us work particular days; some work just a few evenings. It feels like I am there more than I am anywhere else - including my bed!!!
