Poster: A snowHead
|
I'm flying out on Saturday to Swizterland, staying in an apartment near Zermatt. I'll need to pick up some groceries on Saturday, ideally I'll get them as close as possible to where I'm staying. Anyone know what time supermarkets normally close on a Saturday in the Valais? And are they open on Sundays? Ta.

Normally 5:00 pm Saturday, closed Sunday.
However COOP in Crans open 09:00-12:30 16:00-18:30 on Sunday. There is a COOP in Zermatt which a Google suggests might be open 8 till 8.

Although I would suggest that a COOP in Zermatt will be significantly more expensive than a COOP in Sion for example...

Can't speak for Zermatt or the Coop but when we were in Nendaz the prices in Migros were exactly the same up the mountain as in Sion just a slightly more limited selection.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

T Bar, Sion might be particularly expensive?
There's probbaly a pan-Swiss egalitarian control of pricing, just to be fair to all inhabitants...

There is a supermarket in Geneva airport, it's open from 0800hrs to 2100hrs. I realise that is a long way from Zermatt but we have always used it for food to eat on the train. There are two supermarkets in Zermatt and both are open Sunday.

under a new name, I think you are correct. Whether that is a regulation or a business practice I am not sure.
I do know that Migros have a "one price" policy...ie an item costs the same wherever the store is.
Quite a contrast to the pricing habits of the French chains where they make you PAY when at altitude.

Thanks for the info folks. We're arriving in Geneva about lunchtime so I'll probably just drive until about 4pm then find a supermarket. Or stop in Sion if I get there earlier.
