Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

These were taken at Hemel over 6 hours, I'd like some feedback.

I know I have a lot to work on still, especially arm position, up to this point I'd skiied 10 days on a mountain, and several sessions on my own at Hemel/MK and a bit on Welwyn

Buddy I won't wade into the technique, sure someone will be along to do that in detail soon.

Just be prepared, sometimes people get a tidal wave of advice and it's hard to know where to begin, what is important and what is just irrelevant. That's why an instructor will work on one thing at a time over a longer period.

By the end of this thread try to isolate 2 or 3 things you feel will benefit you most (can I suggest the kick can be left until a little later) and concentrate your responses and questions on those points until you understand what you are doing wrong, what you should be feeling and the benifit it should bring you when you nail it.

either way have fun, taking an interest in technique is the best step you can make to improving quickly, just dont over complicate things.

Oh and don't be afraid to drag this thread up again once you have tried the stuff (unless some snowheads have used it for a pointless argument, in which case make a new one)

Don't worry about your arm position, there are more important things to focus on. For me the main problem is in most of those runs you push your skis sideways to create the turn (although the later tuns are better than your earlier runs). That pivot entry to the turn can easily become a habit which is hard to break. It might be caused by the fact that you are static (no extension/flexion movement) and often sitting back on your heels, or worse. Creating a more positive extension movement at the start of your turns will help to eliminate the pivot and will probably improve your fore/aft balance. Keep working on the pole plant and use this to help trigger the extension movement at the start of your turns.

Thanks, I was getting instructed on technique, and to take away a number of drills to work on for each - we did progress through without getting really good at each drill, so we did have more things that we could work on after - I've got a lot to work on, I know that Wink

I can get down a mountain safely and enjoy it right now, but, I want to get better so I can ski more of the mountain.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Little Martin, I'd like to see you a little more forward; get off your heels and then the heel-pushing Rob mentions above will be correctable as well.

There are informal free coaching sessions on at Heme at the moment; 7am on Tuesday morning; 19.30-21.30 Tuesday Evening; 19.30 to 21.30 Wednesday Evening.

I coach/host the Tuesday Evening; Dan Gillespie usually looks after Wednesday evening; Tuesday Morning is shared out between a number of the other coaches.

thanks, I'll see if I can work out what I'm doing when entering the turn, by the end I was leaning forwards more into the boot which is one of things that was worked on.
