Anyone used livignosnow.com at all?
They have a property which requires 30% deposit by tomorrow - no credit cards allowed.
Concerned not to become a mug - but seems legit!
Many thanks
Matt

When in doubt......don't do it. If you can't use a credit card you won't have a fallback.
Perhaps contact the Tourist Office and enquire?

How are you supposed to pay this 30% deposit? By bank transfer? And why by today? I am always suspicious of anything that seems to artificially push a quick decision.

It is often quite normal that smaller pensions and apartments will require early deposit and usually they can only accept bank transfers.
We have done it a few times in Austria. Although I do not like paying for international transfers so often if it was last minute we asked them to pay all cash on arrival. I guess that early they would want a deposit.

Mattmulkeen, I had a look on their website. I see what you mean about it feels legit - there's an awful lot of effort gone into that website and it's got quite a personal feel. But I was surprised not to be able to find any contact details for them - no address, not even a phone number (except for Dec-May in resort contact). I find that quite bizarre.
Could you ask them to provide more concrete details about their business in order that you could feel more comfortable? They must have been asked before.

Dont know if it helps but we have been to Livigno a couple of times and the Hotel Lac Salin is superb. Not sure of your budget, circumstances etc but it was brilliant with great customer care.
Worth thinking about? Safer?

Tom W, it wasn't the cash transfer that rang alarm bells with me, it was the cash transfer 'by tomorrow'. I've paid smaller places by bank transfer no problems, but this seems altogether a bigger operation, dealing with a number of different properties and providing a multitude of services, which is why it seems odd they can't take a card. And then there's the lack of contact details or registered address. Maybe there are perfectly good explanations for that, as otherwise the website does look legit.

Surely from what I remember a few years ago, it was fairly easy to book accommodations from the official Livigno website.....

Peter Leuzzi, very nice ... but I'll have to wait until the little people are all grown up. Thank you though.
Gämsbock, yeah it looks the real deal. I will update if I get a response because I wouldn't want to muddy the waters for a decent outfit.

For Livigno, please check out www.ski-livigno.com I should also add that there will be a new site in about a month with packages including flights with Monarch from Gatwick and Manchester to Friedrichshafen. I am a partner in this business, which is a member of the Travel Trust Association, so your money is 100% safe with us. If you are interested, please get in touch with me via snowHeads and I will be pleased to assist.

Cyclopia, Thanks for posting.
By the way: Is Friedrichshafen better for transfer to Livigno than Milan?

FWIW I got a response clearly detailing good credentials.
Through personal preference of preferring the security of credit card booking I decided not to proceed.

Our company ski-livigno.com is underwriting transfers from Friedrichshafen, laid on to meet the two Monarch flights. We also offer scheduled transfers from both Milan Airports, Bergamo and Innsbruck. However, because they are scheduled transfers, there is a slight risk that in the event of a flight delay you could miss the transfer, as it doesn't wait. On the other hand the Friedrichshafen transfer waits until both of these flights have landed, as it is our service.

Mattmulkeen - I know little about Livignosnow so I'd rather not make any comment except to say I'm very surprised that any firm would ask for such a large deposit even if the company did offer financial protection.

Good afternoon,
I have been directed to this forum by one of our guests. I am the owner of Livigno Snow Holidays and I would be grateful if you would allow me to clarify some of the above points. We are a UK registered company and specialise solely in the Italian resort of Livigno. Upon booking the accommodation owner requests 30% of the accommodation costs which is payable within 5 - 7 days to guarantee the accommodation (never 'by tomorrow' as someone suggested above). The reason why there is the time limit of 5 - 7 days is that all our accommodation is centrally located and in high demand and the owners will not put anything on hold beyond this time limit without some form of commitment.
We do not have credit card facilities as we prefer to pass payment from guests to suppliers (such as accommodation owners) immediately - we do not sit on guests' payment like large tour operators - and therefore our business bank account is actually based within Livigno for this purpose.
We are based in Livigno during the winter and therefore have an Italian mobile, but during the summer months we run a windsurf programme across many countries including the middle east where phone connection is intermittent and where we are on the water most of the day out of contact. Therefore we communicate by email - this also allows a written record of all communication to reassure both ourselves and our guests.
I hope this clarifies our position and reassures you as to our intention to provide quality holidays at local prices with a high level of service. Thank you for taking the time to read this message.
Kind regards,
Nikki McLeary
