Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Glencoe and Cairngorm Ski Touring Report - 30 May and 1 June 2014

Poster: A snowHead
Some pics below of Scotland ski touring over the past two days Very Happy . Great weather and fairly extensive skiing (for the time of year) on lovely soft snow at Glencoe on Saturday (30 May). 300m of vertical available. Easy access via the sightseeing chairlift as well.

Weather was more overcast at Cairngorm yesterday (Sunday 1 June) and we had 45 mins of bushwacking to get to the snow. More nice cover though and 250m of vertical in the Ciste Gully. We saw two other ski tourers at Glencoe and a tourer plus two skiers who'd carried their kit up at Cairngorm.

We bumped into the Glencoe owner on the Spring Run - who said that there is still 8m of snow in some places on that run. Bodes well for them running the Cliffhanger Chair (for even easier access to the snow) for the Midsummer Slide that's planned for 21 June Cool.

Heading for the snow at Glencoe:

Still a fair depth on the upper mountain:

On foot to the Spring Run:

There's nothing like a raging mountain river and collapsing snow to sharpen concentration....

Cheers moffatross. A reply at last - after only 1700+ views! I was wondering if it was something that I'd said!

That's the plan - but (as ever) it'll be weather dependent with us being so far away. On our recent Glencoe trip the owner said he thinks there could be 60 or 70 there....the pistes could be swarming!

Anyway, we enjoyed last weekend so much that we went back up to Cairngorm last Friday night and hiked/skied/skinned on Saturday Very Happy . The wind was a bit wild - especially on (surprise surprise) the Windy Ridge ascent (it was a lot stronger than the forecast) - but the Ciste Gully was a bit more sheltered. The unbroken vertical available had reduced by about 40m from the previous weekend, to around 170m or so - so still a very worthwhile run that we lapped three times. We also skied a 200m patch just below the Ptarmigan Tow and a steep 100m patch on the West Wall. Another good day (total 730m vertical skied & 900m+ ascended on foot/skins) - despite the necessary evil that is the slog back over to the Daylodge through the deep heather .... Confused
