booked the air tickets and the chalet. last thing is the car hire to get us to St Martin de Belleville. We will have 7 passengers and was wondering is anyone has any experience in the van 7-seater. 4 of us has snowboards. We will have enough space for luggage... or should be go ahead and get 2 autos
Feb 11-Feb 18
thanks

koondog, don't get a Renault Espace type with 7 seats, nowhere near enough luggage room. Some places do 9 seaters which would probably do it, otherwise get 2 cars.

Two cars likely to be cheaper too. They charge a huge premium for people carriers.

Two cars certainly cheaper and more flexible but there aren't many that will take two snowboards.
We hired a Renault Megane Scenic in the summer - middle back seat folds down, leaving room for snowboards (we did have to bring a board and a pair of skis back home, and they went in fine) between the two rear seat passengers. Trouble is, you can't be sure of getting the exact car you want. Most medium sized cars could only take boards on the roof, with suitable carriers.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

just looked at the date. It's a peak week and half term for many UK families as well as French school holidays. Traffic could be chaotic if there is bad weather and will be very busy anyway. With 7 of you, could be worth looking at a taxi transfer or bus - but book well ahead.

we would probably hire 2 cars, and maybe have one of them be a wagon. put most of our gear in one car and have the rest in the other car.
We will be staying in the 3V, specifically at St Martin. Is there alot of activity at night that we would need a car for? None of us has been to 3V or to the alps, so this trip is gonna be a new for us. Obviously, having a car would be very convienent; that is if we actually drive it during the week.

Top tip,
if you want to book 2 cars online use two different credit cards. We made this mistake with Hertz, turned up at Geneva to find only one car reserved. Seems they assumed the second booking was some sort of computer glitch and cancelled it.

Someone who knows 3V better than I do will answer your question about how useful it would be to have wheels in St Martin. One problem is always parking, especially in peak times, and especially if it is snowy. Cars can be mighty inconvenient in crowded snowy resorts. Might be worth reserving covered parking in advance, as on-street parking will be at a premium that week - maybe your chalet has parking available? The people you have booked with should be able to advise. As for getting the gear in one vehicle and lots of people in the other - don't forget how small European vehicles are!

yep, small is an understatement. I was in barcelona during thanksgiving weekend and did notice alot of cars that generally smaller that what we drive here in the states. But one of the cars i was considering hiring was the VW Passet Wagon. We have this car in the states and probably figure that it would be the same or very similiar in europe. Also, we have 3 small-ish females that don't take up too much space.
Also, just checked; the chalet does have parking.

koondog, you can hire mini-buses at Geneva, you just have to book them in advance. They are usually 9 seats so you alkso got a fair amount of luggage space.
