Poster: A snowHead

Hi, have searched but cant find anything recent/relevant so sorry if Ive missed the obvious but we are driving into Tignes tomorrow evening about 8pm if we are lucky and need to know the parking arrangements. Are there cark parks serving distinct areas? We are staying on Route du Rosset, a cheapie hotel called Hotel du Lavachey. Ive only skied the area before, never stayed in Tignes. Any local knowledge appreciated!

Parking all over Tignes with paid for car parks in each Hub - Lac and Val Claret. Some covered, some open. Approx €75 per week. Free open air car park at Les Boisses 1800m and shuttle bus every 30 mins to about 1900. Open air should be fine at this time of year. Some accom has parking, some free, some paid for. 1 May - 30 Nov on street parking allowed. A google of Tignes car parking should come up with info.

steviet865, Your nearest underground carpark is Lac 3 (about 75m from your hotel) underneath the Maison de Tignes) and its €75 for a week. For free you have to go to Boisses as colinstone, says. I will throw a snowball (from the freezer) from my balcony as you unpack - I'm across the road!! To find your hotel take the last exit off the first roundabout, under the concrete passarelle (follow signs for Hotels Gentiana and Campanules. Its a one way system - carry on passing the Loop Bar on the left after 250m, up the rise, bear left after the bend, pass the school, church, round a sharp bend at the Mairie and yours is the third hotel on the right.

Thanks chocksaway! I've only just got wifi on. I parked in Lac 3. Only here for 3 nights, had a brilliant time, slushy low down but fine if you stay high. Only one pub though!?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Good call! We wasn't looking hard enough, went to Loop Bar closing night, excellent covers band called 'bring your sisters', place was rammed, early drive back to Geneva so had to leave early. Hideous conditions today, snowed non stop and visibility was poor. Friend crashed and cracked 2 ribs, top skier who couldn't see the contours of the slope! Ambulances were busy today.

We'll arrive in Tignes (from Geneva) at about 01.00 on Sat 3rd May.

Q1: Is that definite? Q2: Does that mean that the barriers will be up/removed on the resort car parks? Just that the Tignes website indicates that that car parking charges apply until 4th May.

Car parking charges apply for the full season - if the lifts are open you have to pay! You can tall - as they remove the barriers when the parks are free!

Cheers chocksaway. Will pay for our first overnight then move the car to the Les Boisses freebie. Always interesting at the end of the season to see how far back down to the car we can ski - anything to save a few €€€€

We were in Lac last week, after arriving we took the car down to 1800 and parked there. It's a decent size car park adjacent to the piste down to the cabine. After dumping the car we got the bus (every 30 minutes) back up to Lac. On the last morning it was easy enough to pop down to 1800 on th 7:45 bus to be back in le Lac by 0815 (only so long because the windows were all iced up!).
Last saturday you could ski to within about 30 metres of the car park and also the piste ended about 30 metres above the cabine. The Les boises car park is a lot smaller than the 1800 one. Sadly they've built that poncy new apartment "resort" on top of the old big carpark nearer the bus stop.
You didnt say if you were in Lac or Val Claret. If its the former its a doddle, but for the latter a bit of a faff as you need to get 2 buses.
BTW, Colinstone said the buses run to 1900, actually the lac-1800 runs to midnight but with reducing frequency after 1930, see: http://www.tignes.net/en/practical-info/getting-around-tignes-678.html

Cheers andyrew - We own an apartment in Val Claret so have had a May Day weekend final fling for the past 6 or 7 years. Tignes' skiing never disappoints - we love it . Looking good for the weekend too.
