Snow Reports
FAQ
Help!!
Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better!
Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

OK then folks, what's everyone's experience about the best places to buy gear? Is it in the comfort of old Blighty, be it snow & rock,
Ellis Brigham
, inderpendents..OR in resort? Advice of places, shops salespeople would be nice.
- In Particular i need new boots, anyone know if equipment in Breck is as good on price than that of the UK shops? all i can find on line suggests more expensive in resort (- not looking to buy boots online but trying to gauge prices in resorts from resort shops that have webpages.)....Advice, comments and horror stories welcome.

US shops start sales pretty much on Boxing day & prices drop from there as the season goes on - I've seen 50% off by the end of the season but obviously choice will be a bit more limited. Pretty much no store charges ful MRP but boots being predominantly from Euro manufacturers are not always the greatest bargains in the US. Try Gart Sports for a general view of bottom end prices (there a US sportssupermarket with a branch in Dillon not far from Breck)
But the best advice is probably not where you get the cheapest deal but getting a good bootfitter. You're unlikely to get that in a US supermarket & some would say slush+rubble is a bit hit and miss for a supposedly specialist retailer.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If it's boots you're after and you want the best advice and you're going to Breckenridge then go to Jeff Bergeron. He's in Breck and is the most knowledgeable person I've ever come accross. You can find him at bootcast. He's got a long running thread on
www.epicski.com
I'm going there in 2007 just to go and see him. Ithink you'll find him very helpful. His thread is under equipment reviews and is headed "expert boot advice by Jeff Bergeron".
Hope this helps.

Buy? Bay, splutter. You mean you actually pay for ski gear you don't just dig last year''s planks out of the skip on the way into resort?
If you are off to l'alpe d'Huez the skip is inconveniently a few hairpins down from the village - always a wide range of yesterday's ski fads, you know things like Pocket Rockets, the flared trousers of the ski world.
