Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Lenzerheide Men's/Women's Downhill

They both raced on the same course this morning, men first followed by the women. I thought the time comparisons were interesting, not as wide as I would have expected

Matthias Mayer won the men's in 1.29.99
Lara Gut won the women's in 1.32.31

So only 2.57% slower and that time would have placed 18th in the men's. I guess that far greater mass would account for most/all of the difference.

Maria Reisch picked up a really nasty arm/shoulder injury, lots of screaming and she was helicoptered off Sad

Would that mean the men got the better course conditions? What do you think the difference would have been if the women had gone down it first?

I doubt it was actually the same course, but two parallel(ish) courses on the same pistes. Looking at the results on fisski, different course setters are named for the male and female races.

RobW, It was the same course according to Eurosport who stressed the point (they said it was the first time) and they prepared it again in between races (there was less than an hour between end of mens and start of womens) so that conditions were good for the ladies race. It certainly looked the same on tv, I watched them both live.

Claude B, Then I don't understand why the two different course setters. Having seen how cut up the track is after the men, I really can't see how the ladies could race exactly the same line.

Shame about Maria Höfl-Riesch. Through her injury yesterday she is out for the season. Looks like fenninger will be the overall female winner.

Maria Höfl-Riesch is going on holiday and will decide in the next 10 to 14 days about her ski career. That might have been her last professional ski race.

Shame - at 29 she is relatively young to retire, and is clearly still very much at the top of the game. As good a time as any to stop, I suppose.

Great result for Ted Ligety (also 29) in the DH - tie 2nd. I thought he skied it with a "lighter" touch. I wonder whether the men generally skied this run with too much aggression whereas a technically "lighter" approach saw the women quite close in terms of time. Had the snow conditions been the same, I can't help wonder if the times might have been closer.
