Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Tignes - first week of May?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi
About to have a bit of a marital dispute unless someone can reassure me .... we can't find a week that we can both manage time off so it will probably have to be the first week of May. I'm thinking Tignes might be our best / only option. Can anyone let me know how far down the snow is likely to be there at that time of year please? I've typically skied there in Jan/ Feb so want to understand which runs would be ski-able. I appreciate it depends on the conditions so just a rough idea would be good.
I quite like the idea of afternoons sat drinking beer in the sunshine though!
Failing that it might have to be a beach holiday - I've skied already this year but he has only had a few days so ideally we would go for snow rather than sand.
Thanks
F

I was in Val D'Isere / Tignes in late-April into early-May last year and happy to report that pretty much the whole area was open. Obviously there were a few runs that for one reason and another were closed and I don't think you could ski down to Brevieres - but we pretty much had the whole area to play with.

Admittedly, last year was a good snow year - but based my various trips to Tignes at the end of April I wouldn't hesitate to go if given the chance!

Do it!

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

... in fact I will probably be there myself again this year at the end of April!

Yeh... sand will ruin your skis wink

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Normally it's great - you can sunbathe all afternoon after skiing - the resort will be very quiet and therefore very chilled. I have skied really light snow on the glacier on 1 May on 2 consecutive years - but you have to get up early as the sun consolidates new snow very quickly.
