Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Looking for ride share London SW --> Gatwick 16/03 early am

Hey,

Turns out my plans are being foiled by gatwick express not operating on sunday 16th March.

The Southern railway train service is also dodgy with replacement bus services.

I can't get easy bus as they refuse ski carriage, and a friend who did use southern trains last weekend ended up having to get a £120 cab when the train never showed.

Is anyone heading to gatwick that morning and would be willing to split a minicab or driving and would have space in the car?

One ski bag and one piece of luggage.

I am aiming to be at gatwick for 4.30am.

Thanks and if anyone knows of a cheap cab service or another way to get there I would appreciate the help.

Rob

Would travelling down the night before and crashing out in Gatwick be an option? You may also be able to get a cheap hotel nesarby.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

You could stay in a not cheap (posh!) hotel and save compared to a £120 taxi!

I think your mate go ripped off big time. I live in south west London and fly out of gatwick on a regular basis. The most I have ever paid for mini cab in £40 ! I suggest you book a mini cab and you should be ok

I wouldn't mind knowing the cab company as well. Coincidentally, I just phoned the Keen Group for an estimate, and they quoted me £61 from the Clapham Jct area. With a ski bag, any old minicab won't necessarily be big enough and, anyway, I've yet to find a really reliable mini cab firm near me. The Keen Group are good and significantly cheaper than, for instance, Addison Lee, but it's still a large sum to pay.

extremerob, when I needed to be at LGW very early for a flight just before Christmas, I stayed here www.yotel.com - tiny, tiny room, but comfortable, clean, great shower and £62. It's just beneath the terminal too so once you're there, no need for further transport

Taxi from N1 to LGW is £40-£50 booked in advance (super dodgy tho, never know the way, generally have zero English and more worryingly, poor driving ability) so I think you could get a cheaper taxi if booked in advance. Otherwise get the last train / second to last train to LGW and doze in the departure hall.

Or get on holiday extra's cos they often have deals on Gatwick hotels. Make sure you book one that is actually at the terminal tho.

Live in South London / and have got cabs from Dulwich and Clap Junction before - £50 from local minicab firms is most you should pay.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

hmmm can I ask about trains? As we are travelling early on the morning of Monday 17th March. Was planning on the Thameslink or whatever it's called these days. Is this the Southeastern you were talking about and if so where did you find out about bus replacement service?

Sorry to ask a question rather than answer yours!
Cheers
