Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How busy was half term in 3 Vallees this year ( 2014)

Hi All
Just wondered how busy (or not) Meribel and the 3 vallees was this half term. I still have memories of my own youth in Chamonix at half term with 20 minute lift queues.

We went to Austria ( Hocking area) this year and pistes were ok and only had to queue at a few lifts ( there are a couple of bottle necks but most other lifts we skied straight on). Although not nearly as much skiing as in 3V ( 150Km v 600km) or as varied.
Thinking of returning to same place next year but the UK half term coincides with Fasching ( carnival week) next year so we have been told that the resort and Austria in general will be much busier. So thinking 3V might be less busy even with Paris hols as well ?
Appreciate any words of wisdom from those based in 3V. Thanks

This year wasn't bad at all and I thought it definitely seemed quieter than previous years, Other than a few pinch points I found the queues to be really short. I don't think I queued for more than 5 minutes anywhere.

Mind you, we did have 3 days of snow / low visibility which also seemed to keep a lot of people off the slopes.

I think this year was also the first week of the Paris holidays and next year we add another of the regions into the mix, which should make it a bit worse.

to be honest though, I've never found the queues in Meribel / 3V to be too bad in the last 3 years. The worst time is when all the ski schools start in the morning but now ESF seem to have mostly moved their meeting point up to Le Rond Point and this spreads out the queues a bit.

We are looking for somewhere for Feb half term 2015
We have been completely spoilt by skiing in Norway, where there are relatively few queues.
Where would you recommend
thanks

I think the investment in lifts across the 3Vs has made a difference and there were few queues. Also the European holidays have been a bit more spread out than in the past.

Plus not all the 3Vs are predominantly 'English' and so that probably helped.

My friend reported massive queues on the road from Chambery to Albertville (and presumably beyond) yesterday. So this half term week looks like it will be very busy.

Of course you can! Many French resorts were purpose built with pistes extremely accessible.

Transfers from Geneva to / from 3V can be a nightmare if you go Sat / Sat or Sun / Sun which are the chalet changeover days - add in bad weather and busy airport queues and it's a real pain - hotels offer flexibility with their dates so you can book say a Fri / Fri and get the pistes all to yourself on the Saturday - oddly enough the mid term week (15th Feb) just gone was really quiet on the Belleville side (les menuires/reberty) up and away just after 9am before ski schools got organised - a bit mad though about 4pm on the home runs!!

Thanks all for the updates. Sounds like the week after the Uk half term was the busier this year. Olderscot is right that next year, looks like two French regions have the same week as the Uk half term.
Am hating being stuck to school holidays - eldest is at senior school and youngest is only 6 so have another 11 years of this Sad

Out of interest was half term more busy or less busy than New Year week this season in the 3V?
We did xmas this year which was fairly quiet but chances of my other half getting xmas off work next season are very unlikely.

Thanks as ever.......

Have a look at the French school holidays calendar, one zone seems OK but when two zones are off its really busy!
This year only one zone was off the same week as the majority of the UK.

I agree the 3V's was quiet this past half term.
IMO: I've not been to Norway...(Brrrrr) But if you've never been to the 3V's you wont be disappointed, it's magic.
