Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Sybelles

Just got back from les bottieres in les sybelles area. Five families, total nineteen skiers of all abilities from beginners to expert. Thought I would share some thoughts for anyone considering similar trip.

Ski area - plenty to keep you busy for a week but not over challenging. Good piste management but quite a few long drags and cranky chairs. Obviously some new investment happening but not PDS standard but hey ho lift pass was two thirds the price and no qs to speak off at half term a real bonus. Really quiet and distinct lack of Brits was quite refreshing! Link from les bottieres was challenging for beginners - two long steep drags. Officious lift attendant on return chair 15 stops at dead on 4.30 not a second later. Judging by his waistline he likes to get back for his tea! Taxi back from la toussuire around 20 euros.

Accomodation - we stayed at Sourires et Vacances in les bottieres. V cheap deal. Two interconnecting appartments for ten. Kids in one, adults in other - worked well. Smaller one also downstairs. Well equipped and cosy. No lounge area to speak of but ok. 100m to bottom of 1 st drag and almost ski to door. Ski shop next door and cracking small bar/ restaurant Le Grenier 100m away. No other nightlife to speak of but perfect for families.

Access - easy drive from Grenoble airport. 1 and half hours. However, beware. Buckets of snow on 1 st day meant stuck in resort. Make sure you have snow tyres/ chains. I did not and had prang in hire car. Could not get a replacement all week and ended up with 300 euro taxi back to airport - ouch! Lessons learnt for next time. Also no shop in village to speak of other than Le Grenier which sells pre- ordered bread, cheese, milk and local wine. Trip down to valley needed for supermarket or across to la toussuire.

Pros - great skiing on a budget. Fantastic scenery. Easy access. French in bar, ski shop, tourist office genuinely pleased to help/see you unlike most major resorts. Lack of Brits! Plenty of runs for a week.

Cons - slow lifts/long drags. Lack of variety - no tree lined runs. No shuttle bus link from les bottieres to la toussuire.
