Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Which skis - Line Celebrity or Salomon Q88 - please help!!

Hello SnowHeads

I'd be very grateful for your advise...

I've decided to take the plunge and get my first pair of skis!!

I've narrowed it down to Line Celebrity 85 or Salomon Q88 Lux and now I'm pretty stuck to be honest about which ones to pluck for!

I'd like to think I'm a competent skier (I can get down a black easily enough) but I'm not overly confident. I tend to ski largely on piste, although I have started to dabble in the joys of off-piste powder.

I guess I'm looking for something that will help me get from good to great but not push me too far too soon (if that is possible?!).

Any help / advise would be awesome!!!

Thank you Smile Smile

"I've narrowed it down ... " How ? weight? Size? Experience? Japan, Euro, US (where?)

Probably go for either a) the colour you like most or b) the best price - depending on how you shop! I tend to be a b) type shopper (but I have paid up for must have colours!)

BTW don't know either ski...

Only serious advice might be go for a tad wider as an all mountain - 90-95mm underfoot depending on how you answer my 1st q's. Like Blizzard Brahama or Black Pearl .

My suggestion if you ski largely on piste unless you intend to focus more on off piste is go narrower under foot.

If you are looking to get from good to great than my experience is that you are far better investing in instruction rather than skis. Having got that off my chest then if you are looking for slis to help you improve and spend most time on piste and dabbling off piste then you are best of with skis maximum up to 80mm as easier to get from edge to edge and improve your technique which will help you go off-piste more in the future. There is no doubt wider skis help you off-piste but the trend for wider skis is really a UK market fashion and good skiers in sking countries are on narrower skis although they may well have a pair of wide skis as well for touring and off-piste days.
