Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Newbie skier looking to buy backpack

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello,
I am looking at buying a backpack for skiing that carries an extra lens for my googles, some food to eat and water and layers of clothing. I was thinking of this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00437V7S0?ref_=pe_623860_70668520&tag=amz07b-21 or this http://www.amazon.com/Camelbak-Thermobak-Hydration-System-Pattern/dp/B002HOOC56/ref=sr_1_4?s=outdoor-recreation&srs=2586702011&ie=UTF8&qid=1391813343&sr=1-4&keywords=camelbak&tag=amz07b-21. Wondering if anyone has any recommended ski backpacks?

I don't think you'll get much in those Camelbacks. Have a look at something like a Dakine Heli Pro 20l or Heli 11l, still neat little packs but ski backpacks with a hydration pouch rather than a hydration system with a bit of space.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've got this:

Really good size, fits everything you could need for a day on the slopes, really light too. And it has a slot for a camelbak and tube.

Bargain too

I use an old Targus Laptop backpack. It has lots of little compartments for separately storing Camera, Food, Clothing, goggles, suncreme, etc, etc But then I am the pack-horse for the whole family!

As a newbie, I would stay away from back packs. They alter your centre of gravity and it's hard enough learning to ski without an added hinderence. Wear everything or stuff your pockets.

It might also be worth thinking about getting one with a built in back protector if you are set on going down the backpack route - Ortovox and Deuter are makes that we have used.

Dakine all the way. The one scrumpy has is a good deal..... I have a 20l DLX and it is pretty big (but good for what I need it for). If you only want to carry a few things the 11L would be ok

I've gone through a number of backpacks over the years, and settled for the Osprey Kode 22, it's has built in back protection, supports water bladder, hip belt wing pockets and the pack is nicely compact with a wet compartment, and easy to access all my gear without too much faffing around.
