Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Morzine - Hire & General Info

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi

I am going to Morzine next week. Long and the short of it is that the two people I travel with will be looking to hire Snowboard and Ski equipment respectively.

First question: Can anyone recommend any hire companies that are particularly good?! Any deals would also be of help - especially as I am not the most internet savvy person.

Second question: Any advice on the general area would be much appreciated. Looking for info about how accessible places like Avoriaz are - are they worth going and best ways of getting there. Also I have a close friend in Les Prodains at the same time. Looking for similar info.

Any "Must-Do", "Must-See" or "Must check-out" would be great.

Thanks in advance

Sorry for all the questions

ViolentLoser, welcome to Snowheads snowHead

We're just back from Morzine and booked our kit vis www.snowbrainer.co.uk and used Matthias Sport, which is very close to the new Pleney lift (look on the website and you'll see that you can select a shop from a choice, when it's a town the size of Morzine). They were the most friendly and pleasant of people to deal with, always a smile and a cheery Bonjour! The kit was fine and booked via Snowbrainer, a very good price. You can leave your walking shoes/boots there during the day, and kit overnight for no extra charge (this may not be very common - in another resort, we had to pay around 35 euros per couple, to use the store at a ski shop were 10 of us had booked kit).

Nice places for coffee are Beanies and Dotty's, both in the older part of town, close to the church. We ate out one night (we were in a catered chalet) in a restaurant the name of which escapes me, but it was very good and pretty reasonable. If you go to Matthias Sport it is the restaurant to the right of there, as you stand looking at it.

Enjoy - we loved it Very Happy snowHead

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Wow. Thanks.

My Chalet recommends SnowMountain which look really good but seem a fair bit pricier than the rest. Almost twice the price of booking online through Mathias Sport. Does anyone think it is worth paying that much higher premium for any reason - they do come out to the chalet ... but?

We use Doorstep Skis, who also come to the chalet and have been great for us, but we take ours home every night rather than leave them at ashop. Depends what you're after.
Lots of great threads for you to read with some super-helpful local SnowHeads: snowHead

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Just back from Morzine today.

After much deliberation, we decided to rent with inter sport right by the super morzine lift. The main reason being that I HATE schlepping about in ski boots/carrying skis. This place is very convenient as it's right next to the lift and you can leave the skis (and your own boots should you wish) overnight there and pick them up in the morning. You can also leave your shoes there while you ski. This was really useful for us, the price was reasonable too.

Avoriaz is easy to get to from super morzine, it's up there then zore then proclou, or a bus to prodains and straight up that way.

My biggest tip to you would be to book a restaurant on an evening, especially on a Wednesday, so you aren't traipsing about like a pair of eeejits in the snow looking for somewhere to eat in the cold. Very Happy

I echo the beanies comment, nice coffee in there. Rhodes bar does nice burgers but we had a super meal at l'etale - really recommend this place!

Enjoy!

Ski Hire
I tend to do Morzine with HOFNAR and they use Hubert Sports for ski hire. Just around the corner from the Super Morzine lift and free ski lockers for customers (though friends can usually sneak their equipment in too provided you aren't taking the micky).

Free mulled wine when you drop your skis back on Friday too.

Things to See/Do
Don't just jump on the Super Morzine every day - there's some very good skiing on the Morzine/Les Gets side too.
Worth getting over to Mont Chery on the Les Gets side - nice mountain restaurant, nice runs and generally not too busy.
If weather's a bit pants the run down to the bottom of the Ardent gondola can get a bit busy but is good fun and in the trees.
If you're good skiers and fancy a full day doing the ring Morzine->Avoriaz->Chatel->(bus)->La Chapelle->Torgon->Morgins->Avoriaz->Morzine is a nice day run.
