Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

NatalieG That's great news . Hopefully you will be fine to ski too . You will know yourself if you are up to skiing on the day. If you are you should get a very good idea after the first few turns as to whether it will be problematic or not and can just build from there . Pain is really a good indicator as when to stop!
Worst case there are lots of other things you can do in the mountains like snowshoeing ,Langlauf or just reading a book whilst eating and drinking nice things !
Good luck and I hope you have a great time.

NatalieG, If everyone was skiing only with their knees being 100% perfect there would be way less people on slopes. Good luck!

Isnt that the truth! The last time I went skiing I could actually ski in less pain than I could walk, until just after lunch when clearly my muscle became tired and stopped doing their job so well and I had to stop completely and go and soak in the bath. Still it was that or not go at all.

Well, I saw the consultant this afternoon. The knee has been gradually feeling a bit better and after making me bend my knees, stand on one leg etc and then prodding at it in various places, he couldn't find anything wrong with it! Not even worth having an MRI, in his view, although he has made me an appointment with James Vickers on Thursday (what a way to celebrate my 40th birthday!) so that he can help me to strengthen it further. Anyway, most importantly, he says that he sees no reason that I shouldn't ski - hurrah! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

So, thanks for the support and advice. I plan to take it slowly but I feel confident that as long as I am careful it should be fine, especially with a bit of expert physio to send me on my way. So now I can start getting excited about my holiday again!

Thanks holidayloverxx! James was great. My knee is quite sore today after the exercises we did in the session but I think that it is just stiff from the work-out! There's certainly no other explanation for my stiff calves. Now I just have to keep doing up the exercises at home....

Well, I made it! Not my finest week's skiing by a long way, but no incidents or injuries resulting from my knee or otherwise so that's good. I plan to up my fitness again for next year and hopefully do some more sessions at Hemel with Inside Out between now and then, and hopefully I will be back where I should be after that. A lovely week in the mountains anyway! snowHead
