Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Resort for large mixed group - mid March

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi there,

We have a group of 10-14 people of mixed ability looking to travel in March (next year).

Most of the group are "intermediate" 6-8 weekers, with a few people more advanced and a few quite green Very Happy

Ideally we'd like a mixed variety of runs ranging from easy flat stuff to more technical bits. But I'd estimate that 70% of the time we'll be on medium blues and reds. We'd also like to be able to get a few miles under our belt and travel to another part of the ski area. At the moment we're looking in the Espace Killy area, Tignes in particular - but I'd like to get some other snowHead opinions. We're mainly looking at France due to there being more "snow sure" resorts there.

Other considerations are of suitable accommodation and cost. We'd want 1 large self catering property, so somewhere that's mainly 2 bed shoeboxes might prove difficult to find some digs Smile Apres isn't a main concern, we'd certainly prefer something "nice" compared to somewhere apres centric like VT.

Suggestions? Very Happy

Thanks

Scottland, if you are bent on France then check your dates don't clash with the school holidays.

How about La Plagne ? A couple of options in Belle Plagne in the Motagnettes group. You can book them direct or through Erna Low.

Alpes d huez, les arcs and serre chevalier spring to mind

Another vote for Belle Plagne - should suit all needs and plenty of travel options including Les Arcs for the slightly more ambitious with several relatively straightforward pistes to get there/back.

Thanks for the replies, I'll take a look at the places mentioned.

pam w, it's not that we're hell bent on France - its more about getting somewhere snow sure in March. There seems to be a much wider selection in France compared to Austria, not so sure about Switzerland or Italy though as I've never looked into there. Will definitely check out the school holiday dates, if they're online yet.

10-14 is not a large group (we regularly go with 40+) and any of the main tour operators should be able to handle this number fine. As to resorts, well there are thousands across the Alps to choose from. If you are talking early half of March, the try any of the Ski Welt resorts in Austria, or the main Dolomites resorts in Italy - you will love both. If late March, then yes consider the big high French resorts as other have suggested.

it is large for combined self catering though which ime is often only available in 6s with the odd 10/12. Thats one reason we no longer self cater and go chalet instead.

Well, the best snow is in Italy at the moment...

Hopefully it will have stopped snowing by then, and you can enjoy the massive base they've built up and the sun Laughing

Tignes is a pretty good choice
La Tania was also a good recommendation. Not sure what the self catering options in Courchevel 1650 and Meribel are but both are great for a mixed ability group
