Poster: A snowHead
|
At the weekend my entire family participated in an informal super-G race. It was an easy course and not very steep, a good test of glide technique, fine carving skills and careful choice of line. The competition was open to anybody and about 150 people took part. The good news was that all four of us ended up on the podium! My daughter and son won the girls/boys class, my wife came second in the ladies and I was third in the mens. So we went back to our apartment in triumph wearing medals and clutching goodie bags.
The bad news...I was beaten by my daughter by 3 tenths! I must be getting old. Well actually, this wasn't bad news at all. She has had a big struggle with competitive skiing and has come close to giving up a couple of times. The smile on her face when she realised she had beaten me fair and square was worth a lot. Sometimes it's good to lose.

hyperkub, not getting old at all!
Being beaten by daughter (or son) is as it is meant to be.
As somone here mentioned years ago: you actually only ski "with" your children for about half an hour.
For a few years they are learning and they follow along behind.
Then one year they are beside you - they stay there for a couple of runs
And then they are off!
From now on you only see them at the top and bottom of runs.
So it goes.

hyperkub, Sorry, you have to get used to it. It gets worse. And worse. Your daughter will smile now, but next year she will be embarrassed by how slow you are.
But congrats on the whole family winning

Jonpim, So with you on that one. I'm an instructor, I'm not slow, but this year for the first time my daughter said 'Can we just meet you at the bottom, we don't want to keep waiting for you'. Grr!!! But I couldn't keep up with her. Haven't been able to keep up with my son for a few years now, not since he stopped using falling over off the side of the piste as his grumpy teenager method of stopping and starting on the instructor trail himself. I think I'm just getting scared of going so fast.

hyperkub,
How cool.
I wouldn't worry about 3 tenths.
Can you blame it on hand timing?
