Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Edinburgh to innsbruck via Frankfurt baggage question

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am doing this journey tomorrow and my connection time is quite tight, both flights are with Lufthansa albeit a code share with Austrianaairlines for second leg, does anyone know if my luggage is likely to be checked right through from Edinburgh or will I need to reclaim it in Frankfurt and check it back in?

It will be checked through to Innsbruck. They are both Star Alliance partners.

Yeah, connections can be stressful, but Lufthansa is usually great. I live just a few minutes from the Frankfurt airport, so I use them all the time. Safe travels! I'll be in the Alps this coming week, also, but I'm driving down. Looks like it is going to be balmy for the first couple of days, but then hopefully a bit more fresh snow on Tuesday!

Snap.

Luggage should go thru, but you'll get passport/immigration in frankfurt I think, and possibly a walk thru security, at least in one direction (can't be sure - long time since I've had to transit a major hub when living 15mins away from one!)

Frankfurt passport control is really quick. German efficiency at work. Security can be a mixed bag.

Be prepared for your luggage not to make it if there are delays to your first flight.

I did this connection a while ago and saw may boad bag sitting on the tarmac as our plane to Innsbruck set off down the runway.

I was denied boarding on a KLM connection to Innsbruck - I got there but they said they'd offloaded my bag despite being there before the gate closed.

So I went via Frankfurt.

And my bag stayed in Amsterdam!

Not an experience I'll repeat - but they shouldn't really be allowed to sell that as a connection, as even if on time you've only got about 40 minutes.

40 is just wrong.

friend managed change from T2 to T1 (or the other way?) with not much more than an hour for an connecting flight to south africa, and still had time to surf online at the gate for 15mins.

KLM/AirFrance are the world champions at forgetting to send luggage.

 You know it makes sense.

The problem with the Leeds-Amsterdam flight is even though it might land on time, they park the aircraft somewhere near Rotterdam and you have a 15-20 minute bus journey just to get to the terminal. If you only have hand luggage you can usually leg it through the terminal on time, but even though I was there, and wasn't even last in the queue they wouldn't let me on - so my extra day's skiing in St Anton became an extra day's drinking beer at Schipol.

Did you buy it as a single journey or arrange the two flights yourself?

If a single journey, then it'll definitely go straight through.. if you bought the two yourself, I'm less sure.

feef, subject to the first flight being on time. We had bags checked straight through from Sydney to Manchester, but due to landing late, there wasn't time to get the bags from the arriving flight to the departing flight. And yes, we booked it as one journey on the same airline, but regardless of this they won't hold flights up unnecessarily.
