Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski Instruction Recommendations in Val d'Isere please?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

I am going to Val d'Isere in a few weeks and would like recommendations for which ski school to use for group lessons please.

After my last ski trip in Vail I was able to tackle up to Black runs but not with moguls. I did not attempt any Double Diamonds.

I would like to do 3 mornings of ski school in Val d'Isere in a group. Does anyone have recommendations of whom to use.

I've seen TDC and Mountain Masters mentioned. But what about British Ski School (BASS) and also Oxygene? I would like an English speaking ski school, rather than bilingual, as I'd like to be able to enjoy some banter with the other skiers when on the lifts.

Thanks
R

If you are after English speaking then TDC, Mountain Masters and Progression are probably the 3 that immediately spring to my mind in Val d'Isere.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I am an english speaker and am in touch with TDC.

Anyone else?

A friend had (beginner) group lessons with, I think, New Generation and was happy with them.

Very poor experience with Oxygene so wouldn't recommend them.

My son was in group lesson with them where he was the youngest in class of 14 kids. They didn't assess his ability, got him to do way more than he was capable of then complained to us that he wouldn't listen and needed private tuition. They scared him away from skiing with their attitude.

May have been poor organisation on behalf of the TO (Mark Warner) by plonking a kid in a group inappropriate for his age/experience but the Oxygene instructors were unpleasant and unreasonable.

Our experience with Oxygene in Val made us change TO and Resort.

.....really don't like plugging the school I work for directly on occasions like this (seems a little too self-promoting) but on this occasion ill just point that we specialise in 3 days clinics (small groups of max 6) for persons such as yourself. www.tdcski.com. Plug over!

P.S. LOTS of fresh snow today and its still snowing!

Thanks everyone.

TDC only have one group class when I'm there and it is possibly above my skiing ability (I will have a day of skiing before I decide).

Mountain Masters seem to be bi-lingual and to be honest I'd prefer to avoid that, as in a group sometimes when an instructor is advising someone else I can pick up something as well. Also, it will help to speak the same language for some camaraderie.

I will check in with Progression.

rossyl, most bilingual schools run single language classes for the high season weeks. Ultimate are english only though if you want to be sure of a native speaking instructor. we had a fun week with them in maybe 2008, several instructors (and approach) still the same from the look of it.
