Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Need a quick answer... ATM exchange rate in Austria? Mayrhofen?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I'm going to Mayrhofen on Saturday and wondering whether to order Euros online today (cut off 3pm) or to withdraw in one go once out there.

The Post Office and my bank were offering 114 to the pound whereas online is 119. It's a difference of 40-45 euros (or ten pints)

Anyone been recently and can advise?

It will just be the standard Visa rate (or whoever supplies your card) currently about 1.20 Euros per pound, plus what your bank chooses to load on top, right?

See: http://www.visaeurope.com/en/cardholders/exchange_rates.aspx
but it will depend who you bank with.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

The exchange rate will be the published bank exchange rate. What you pay will vary, you need to read this.http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/overseas-card-charges

I've just ordered from travelex to pick up from the airport. Got 1.20 to the pound. Worked out an extra 20euros on my £550 over using ATM.

2014 is the year of the scrimper in my house lol

I withdrew €300 from an ATM in Westendorf over Christmas. With the exchange rate (1.19) and the various transaction and cash fee charges from my bank (first direct) it worked at at an equivalent rate of 1.14. I am off to St Anton at the end of the month and will change £500 cash here in London at 1.20 instead.

As you say, it's only the difference of one night of drinks but it will be like drinking for free!

Sorry, Correction, i got 1.184. I worked out the cost as:

RBS charges on ATM withdrawl - 2.75% + 2% which is max £5. 2.75% of £550 is £15.12 plus £5 = £20.12 charges on 1.20 rate = 640Euros for my £550

Travelex at 1.184 = 651Euros for my £550.

Not much in it but its better in my pocket and if i was unable to withdraw the lot in Austria i'd have got charged twice
