Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Year 2014/2015 - where to go???

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

I have skied about 8 or 9 times but am a 'safe' skier, my husband has skied 3 times and I have 2 daughters aged 11 & 8 who have both skied twice but are pretty good and will try most runs up to red.

We went to Samoens in 2013 and would go again but not sure if it's high enough for a New Year Trip - anyone been at this time of year. Looking at Flaine as loved the skiing round there. I'm not looking for a big party at new year - maybe just torches and fireworks.

Any suggestions for anywhere else gratefully received but think France is my preferred location as prices in Austria seem much higher.

Would really appreciate any advice as I would like to book early to get the free child places currently on offer.

Thanks in advance

Anywhere should be fine, we've been a couple of times at new year/christmas or the weeks before after and we've never had really bad conditions. Take a look at Italy - cheaper and some friendly villages - we were in sauze d'oulx last year for christmas and it was great Smile At the other end of the price scale Val d'Isere is a lovely village and puts on a good show and I'm sure Courchevel does too (VdI maybe not for novices though, the runs are badly graded and rather steep). Flaine handles less snow well so would be fine if you want to return. I used to do Austria regularly for the first weekend in jan - ski amade resorts. Personally I'd just load up igluski and sort by price and look for the first one you fancy Smile

Have you been to La Rosiere or Montgenevre? Both would suit your family in terms of skiing and are at 1800m meaning a good chance of decent snow cover. Whilst we were once in La Rosiere for New Year it is too far back for me to remember the celebrations. Our youngest was 3 at the time so we would have been back in our apartment well before midnight.

I love the Grand Massif but have heard that the links over to Flaine can get very busy at New Year. We went later in the season when it was unbelievably quiet there.

Thanks for the post - I was going to ask the very same question!. Types of runs not a problem for me & hubby but just wondered if particular areas more expensive than others or if it follows the typical pattern as it does the rest of the year.

Are the more "après focused" resorts going to more fun at new year or do the smaller places still hold their charm? I like the idea of maybe mayrhofen or sauze d'oulx as been to both before and loved them; although I have to say I think prices to Italy and Austria seem to have shot up in recent years or is that just me?! Think mayrhofen night have a good buzz or maybe somewhere like tignes? Val T?
