Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snoworks-Mark Warner-Chalet Hotel Hauts de Toviere

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hello all,

As some of you may recall I was looking for advise on ski academies and thanks to several helpful Snowheads I booked on to a Snoworks course in Tinges in Feb.

At the time I had the option of booking accommodation with Mark Warner, however the above accommodation is used the week I'm travelling and it seems to be pretty poor-I always though Mark Warner were meant to be a quality product. You do seem to get a decent discount-it will cost me £700 inc flights and transfers on the MW website it would be £1200!! I'm travelling solo so the main positive is I can avoid the single supplement charges, plus as Snoworks put their clients in this hotel it will make it easier to socialise with other people on the course assuming most SW clients take the full package option when travelling solo?

£700 is allot of money for poor to mediocre digs IMO, all I want is a warm bed and hot food but for £700 I'd expect a good standard.

Other option is to wait until last minute and see what is available, and perhaps avoid any single supplements when places just want to fill rooms? Would appreciate any opinions, part of me wants to just go for the package deal for easiness.

Bene, Why do you think you wouldn't get a warm bed and hot food ?

I think GrahamN stayed there on a Snoworks course in November, maybe send him a PM.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

There is usually a fair amount of late availability in Tignes in my experience, but you are still looking at say £500 and you risk missing out entirely Shocked or single supplements driving that back up. Plus you might have hassle getting to/from the class and miss out on the evening conversations etc, so I think even though it's not got a great reputation I'd bite the bullet and go MW....

Bene, Stayed there many times --- first one was in 1988.. was there in November again. Yes the hotel is basic -- but the MW staff and food are good. The fixtures and fittings could do with renovation, but it's warm, lot's of hot water and easy access to the slope or a bus. Only issue I would have is that the bar and Scotty's only have lager on draught -- some Leffe, Afflighem or Grimbergen would be a nice change....

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

rjs, and a.j., Thanks for your replies.

rjs, To clarify my point was that I've stayed in a variety of places when skiing from budget to mid range my minimum standard is hot food and a warm bed if on a budget I take the rest as it comes, shared facilities, small dated rooms etc. However for 700 quid I wouldn't expect that.

I noticed on another thread that someone had posted re: this hotel and a snoworks course, will have to check if the person you mentioned is also the ame one I've PM'd but thanks.

a.j., Take your point, and it's probably what I'll do. I have the safety net of Snoworks dropping me an email or calling me if all their places look like being allocated.

Cheers

Bene, I take your point for that kind of money I'd want a pretty nice chalet, never had one with a hot tub but a sauna is always nice when there's one there.

I'd say for your circumstance go for what SW are offering. If it's crap come back on here and do what's going on in the other thread about the transfers, or not...... Toofy Grin

Bene, nothing wrong with Chalet Hotel Hauts de Toviere. I found the staff to be excellent, the food was up to normal MW standard and the room was just fine.
