Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Help. Marker F12 forward pressure question.

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I am delighted wih my new light set up some K2 Hardsides mounted with F12s.

I do have a question, I am using AT boots, when I set the forward pressure correctly ie with the adjustment screw flush the clearance between boot and the rear binding when inserting the boot is tight to say the least. I have backed the binding off a little to what seems reasonable but still quite tight and I now have one thread showing. I think all the markers at bindings have more or less similar set ups.

Any ideas appreciated.

forward pressure is correct when screw is flush, although it seems too tight. i ski my marker barons with the screw backed out two clicks, half a turn. works great for me, never had a pre release or binding failing to release. make sure the toe height is set correctly too.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

stewcluley, thanks and welcome to snowheads.

It just feels that when "correctly" set the boot might not cleanly clear the rear binding.

Yes the forward pressure on these bindings is high but the screw head MUST be flush to give accurate/consistent functionality.

I've tested many of these bindings on my electronic torque tester & there IS a difference in both the actual release values & the tolerance range results when the screw is backed out. Just because you've not had a problem doesn't mean that it's ok.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

spyderjon, thanks Jon, I guess I need to get the screwdriver out again. They were set up by a competent tech in the first place but it did feel that they might have been moved by the binding elf.

I did think I might pop in somewhere with a tester, but I'll just reset them flush. I did read somewhere that on lower DINs the forward pressure was backed off, it's irrelevant as I set mine on 7.
