Poster: A snowHead

The ski shop in Lech has lots of very expensive skis, but the most expensive are branded as "Bentley" and cost over 7,000 Euros Clearly they're aimed at the oligarch market and I'm never going to buy them, but I am curious. Does anyone know if they're actually any good or not? Apparently they're made by a company called Zai, but I've never heard of them either.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

If you can get Bentley to invite you to Goodwood, they seem to give them out.

I demoed a pair of Zai Testa at Vail last year. It was very well made, super ride, a bit damp and soft, which is OK for a light weight skier like myself. It comes with Vist plates and bindings.
I also demoed a pair of Wagner which I eventually ordered.

Crusader, Vist still make other "named" skis. Valkyrie, should check out the other "designer" named skis in Strolz' shop. Many remarkably similar to the Vist range, similar use of metal/laminates and sidecuts.

Just checked the Zai website, this year they come with Salomon ski bindings instead of Vist bindings. You think Vist made skis for Zai?

Labelling works in strange ways! I was on the panel for Today's Golfer putter testing a few months ago. Some of the putters were obvious who they were made by, some not so. They hoped we didn't know on each putter we tested as they wanted really honest opinions and we weren't influenced by brand reputation.
I tested one that looked cheap, felt nasty, had a horrible grip, awful response off the face etc. When asked for marks and comments I gave it 1/10 and said there was nothing positive to say about it. Turns out it was the most expensive putter there, 3 years in the making, developed by Aston Martiin. What a fail! Think that's a clear sign companies should stick to what they are good at.
Having said that I guess there are plenty of people who put style before function, I personally like a balance of the 2!

swishtony, can you imagine the look on your face as a young, ambitious car designer and your boss says your next project is the DB-3 footer?
No wonder it's a disaster. I mean, the swing weight of even an aluminium V8 is going to hook a bit...
