Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

My next weekend trip beckons so I thought I would ask he experts to get the gen !!
We are staying in Salzburg ( booked ) and have 3 days to ski, so thinking of train to Bischofshofen and Radstadt and then taxi to Muhlbach , Flachau and Obertauern.....!
Ski all day, apres then back to Salzburg pm !
Thought about a car but it limits the 4pm après too much.
What do you think ?Anyone stayed in Salzburg to ski these resorts ?
Cheers

immer schuss, there is a bus every day to Flachau from Salzburg. Drops off and picks up at the Space Jet 1 chair lift. If you let us know when it is there are quite a few of us there every weekend. I have to drive to Flachau every Saturday morning now, but I may be a wee bit too early for some people! I'm usually passing the town at about 07.30 at the latest.

From Bischofshofen there are several buses a day each way to muehlbach (as you probably have figured out by now). Never stayed in Salzburg to come up here, though I'd say Flachau pips it in terms of apres but I am biased towards the Hochkoenig for the skiing! It's a beautiful train journey up from Salzburg and I am a big fan of getting to the hill sans auto (though not a big practicer of this!). Based on recent weather, and depending on when you are heading out, Obertauern may have kept the best snow. Samerberg Sue may be able to tell you differently though from a Flachau point of view.

Gnarbeque, The snow was brilliant to be honest yesterday across the whole of the Flachau, Wagrain and St Jo sections. A friend was up at Obertauern all last week on a training course and said it was good. Other friends ski Radstadt-Altenmarkt yesterday. Radstadt side excellent but the Altenmarkt side was full of death cookies apparently. Schladders is also looking good according to some friends in that neck of the woods! Toofy Grin

It says on obb its only 40 mins and 11 euro to Bischofshofen so that's fine, good for such a nice journey !
We are out on 21 Feb for a few days,I will try and post when we go to Flachau.
We will probably use taxis from rail stations to the lifts just to save time.
Is the après at Flachau as good as they boast at the Hofstadl ( ? name.....)
Thanks Very Happy

The Musi Stadel is where it is at (botttom of the Achter Jet and right a little) or the Dampfkessel at the bottom of Space Jet 1 - both have live music a lot of the time.

The trains to Bischofshofen are pretty good and frequent but getting to the slopes from there can be expensive - take a look at the buses from Salzburg if you want to ski Flachau. Another option is to take the train to St Johann im Pongau (a couple of stops on from Bischofshofen depending on whether it is a slow train or not). The taxi from the station to the slopes at Alpendorf is not very much and they actually run shuttle buses from the station to the slopes during the day. The action there at the end of the day is in the Eule right by the gondola and the Tenne opposite the 6 man chair. You can ski over to Flachau from Alpendorf in about an hour and a half. It is about 7 or 8 lifts but good fast open runs and the G-Link across Wagrain village has to be done at least once just to experience it!

Sing out if you need a guide! I can do Thursdays and Fridays, but Saturdays are changeover days for me so I'm up to my eyeballs in washing and cleaning of apartments! got to do something to pay for this habit Toofy Grin wink

You can turn right when you are on foot and walk along the bottom of the slopes though! It is only past the Spar if you are coming in from that side, which immer schuss won't be doing! wink

Samerberg Sue, I did detailed research of Radstadt/Altenmarkt yesterday whilst mini-me was in ski school, both sides in tip top condition, no ice cookies anywhere and very empty and very nice. Ange Very Happy
