Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Just had our skis serviced and were told the bases were getting thin and may need new ones soon. Is this true? I love my rossy bandits Sad

NE1, not sure how we would know if it's true or not....we can't see the skis wink

it is true that if the bases have been ground lots of times they will become thin - do you get them ground every time they are serviced? how old are they? how often have they been ground?

If your Bandits are that old I bet the foam core is getting a bit soft, My old B2's went like noodles after 5 years Laughing Great ski though. I only get a base ground every 3 years or so, when they get totally gauged out.

Had them 8 years, so had them serviced 8 times, don't know if they ground them every time. Mind you there are some bad gauges in them. Oops

OMG, if I have to get new skis what will I get, I love my B2. They are perfect for me............

I still have mine as rock hoppers, but I delaminated one for about 10 inches behind the binding which is why I bought new skis.

I was out on my old B2's this weekend. No reason why a well looked after pair of B2's shouldn't still have some life in them. Have a look at the thin "FAT" aluminium plates either end of the bindings - they tend to get horizontal cracks if they've led a hard life. Also you can get some idea of how stiff they still are by flexing them - any difference in the arc you can put in them probably means new skis. As others have said, the foam core deteriorates with age & use - but eight year's old might mean eight week's skiing or much much more... Replaced mine with some Atomic Theories 2 years back, but I prefer to be on the B2's given the sketchy snow state in the Aravis at present.

I also found that putting a three degree side angle on my B2's revolutionised their grip on hard pack.
