Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Any info for cheap eats & drinks in Val d'Isere for Uni student?

Hi

My son is going to Val d'Isere for a week this Saturday with his Uni; can anyone give me some pointers to some 'cheaper' eating & drinking places as his budget is a little restricted ( & also 'where to avoid' if you think worth knowing)

Thanks in advance

Mitch

Mitchell, buy eats and drinks in a supermarket. My sons used to buy a litre bottle of "Old Lady" gin and a pile of tonics and some beers - need to make sure they don't freeze on the terrace, though.

There's a takeaway pizza place on the Main Street...l'olympique avenue? that has decent stuff. Or it seemd decent at stupid o'clock after a wonderful evening at Dick's.

They're students, if anyone can find something cheap itll be them! if its a uni trip Im sure they'll only need pointers on 'cheaper' drinking places Wink

If they're going by coach tell them to take a spare bag full of pot noodles just incase they feel the need to eat.

They arnt going on one of these snow, sex and suspicious parents progs are they/you?

P.S. avoid the VIP bar at Folly Deuce

The Pacific has special offers on. Last week it was bottled beers and ciders for €3.50....and 20cl real champagne €4 (but we drank the bar dry of the champagne)

I didn't check the prices of the pizza places but there are several.

morris pub, massive burger salad chips and a beer was €16 last season, other than the supermarket that's as cheap as it gets. Maybe France wasn't the best pick for a cheap trip.

 You know it makes sense.
You know it makes sense.
La tartine in the square off the nursery slopes for €6-7 lunch hot dog/panini/toasted sandwich and a coke type meal,

Supermarket rotisserie chicken and bread usually reasonable.

One of the bars possibly la poste between the tourist office roundabout and the slopes has a happy hour where prices rise throughout the afternoon/evening.

Pretty much anywhere cool they will want to go will hurt the wallet, Dicks, folie douche etc.

Could be worse could be headed for the 3 valleys...

Pasta and selected sauces from the hypermarket, cheap wine for the "hydration" pouch in my bag. Job done. I'm off friday with my uni. cannot wait!

Ditto La Tartine in the square, we got lunch from there most days, oh and the portion sizes in the Moris are huge....remember seeing some fab looking nachos in there.

Bars, there's a couple I can think of. One up from La Tartine (bit further up then the Grand Marnier bar), they do happy hour, 2 for 1, can't remember the name to save my life though! Same for Le Petit Danois. You're looking at 5 or 6 euros a pint, so 2 for 1, good value early doors, think one place has their "hour" right after the other. The Moris knocked a couple of euros off a pitcher, if I remember rightly too.

Bar Alexandra / Moris for burgers are VFM
Tartine at lunchtime for sure.
BEST VFM snackish type / lunchtime food then I would recommend a Fougasse Provencial - think French take on Cornish Pasty from Chevallot bakery - there is one just off snow square next to Tartine - €3.80!!!!
Tell them to head over the valley for a cheap fill up at lunchtime on noodles / wrap from Tignes Cuisine in Tignes Le Lac.
When I was a student on trips here in the last millennium we used to stop down the valley in the coach and stock up....... cereal, jam and things like that are MUCH cheaper down the valley!

Drinks - Cafe Face when it opens....... then it gets more expensive.

The clue here is in the username...

It's the OP's son who is going, so unless the OP is an OAP said son will not find either of those places remotely cool, filled as they are with fat forty yo farts off the leash from their job in the city...

Fair enough, but regardless of venue names cool and trendy can carry a high pricetag.
