Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

First time travelling with a ski bag (Heathrow T1 to Geneva) when you check in does the ski bag have to get dropped off somewhere else or does it go into the same hole in the wall as the suitcases?

And again on pickup, assuming the ski bag arrives, never seen them on the normal baggage carousel, is there a separate pickup location?

(flying with Swiss if that makes a difference)

You'll be pointed at the oversize luggage checkin after you've checked in the rest of your stuff. At the other end, there will be an oversized items collection area, though I can't remember what form that takes at Geneva.

At Geneva they are usually on a separate straight belt at the far right hand (as you enter) end of the reclaim hall, if they are not there then they are usually on a large trolley somewhere in the reclaim hall. Boot bags generally come off on the main carousel even though they might have been checked in with the oversized and odd shaped stuff.

sarah is right, it's a random location at GVA, usually they come off on the belt at the far end, sometimes the come out of a door near where you walk in and get chucked on a big trolley or just left on the floor.

At T1 they come through a hole in the wall at the oversize collection belt. If they're not there some helpful sole may have lifted them off and put them to one side as it's a small collection point and can get overcrowded.

Was far left hand end at GVA last time I went that way with skis. And the bloke dropped them and a couple of pushchairs off before I'd even sussed which belt the normal bags would appear at, which is pretty quick considering it's Schengen from here, so no passport checks, just straight in to reclaim.
Dunno about LHR.

Interestingly, if you're taking advantage of Swiss' Fly Rail Baggage service, the whole lots comes out with your skis at the oversize area at Heathrow. Before I worked this out, I was standing at the conveyor getting worried.

I found collecting my skis really easy at Geneva Terminal 1. I'm going to the charter terminal of Geneva next month though, I've no idea if its going to be the same there!

Charter possibly?

GVA has a belt at the end now but no lazy assed baggage handlers to take stuff off before it trips the cut off so you need to do your own management to get your stuff through.
