Poster: A snowHead

Evening all,
We are off to Soelden on 15th Dec . So far only the Giggijoch cable car up teh mountain is open. Anyone any idea as to when the Gaislachkogl will open or does it depend on more snow ?
Thanks .

The rest of the Sölden lifts and pistes will for sure be opening up anyday now. I drove through Sölden on my way to and from Obergurgl yesterday and saw that there is plenty of snow on the lower pistes. There is more due this weekend as well. My guess is that they don´t yet have all of there seasonal employees so have to keep some lifts closed until the main season starts. It would be very strange if it wasn´t all open by mid December. They´ve invested a lot in snow machine systems over the last few years so should have no problems even if it doesn´t snow.

Italian holiday next weekend too, so I expect the whole lot will probably be running, pretty much. Although not entirely sure the entire hotel clientele that had come up over the hill last time were there to ski.
Must get back there some time.

I'm sure you will enjoy Soelden - I've been twice and both times enjoyed the skiing (once in January with pretty good snow& once for the season closing on the glaciers). As to the town itself as it is quite drawn out, it is advisable to think about where to base yourself in terms of lift access & depending on priorities shops & apres ski.

Ignore this.
I'm with Samerberg Sue. I've skied here 4 times and had a hoot each time. I guess I'm probably and advanced skier (in age as well) though nowhere near expert, and there's more than enough here to keep you going for a week. Apres - well that's up to you. If you want to be out until 4am you can be, but I find I fall asleep by about midnight!! Just a note though, don't be tempted to spend all your apres time around the Giggi end of town, as there are some good bars and a great pizza place over the road from hotel Tyrol (I think) - that's sort of half way between.
Anyway, enjoy

Thanks mozwold, and we'll visit the pizza place . There is a bit of a spread of ability in our group between top and bottom level intermediate so with a day out in Obergurgl seems there will be loads to ski.
