Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Mounting bindings

 Poster: A snowHead

I am considering either a pair of Head Rev 80 Pro + PR11 bindings or Salomon Enduro RS 800 Ti + Z12 bindings.

Thing is, depending which retailer I go for, I may want to mount the bindings etc myself. I am pretty comfortable doing BSL, forward pressure & DIN settings. But how easy (or difficult) will it be to mount the rail and other bits and pieces? I'm guessing these skis will be pre-drilled as they are sold as a set?

Otherwise I guess it's a trip to visit Spyderjon Smile

For rail system bindings the rail is usually mounted to the ski at the factory. Binding just slides on then is held by usually just a single screw or some kind of locking cam. Easy.

Sallie comes with the rail attached that you just slide in the toe/heel bindings, set dins/fwd pressure & you're good to go.

Head's basically the same but you have to screw the bindings in to the appropriate pre-drilled holes in the rail.

Head bindings better for torsional stiffness but I'd choose the Sallie as without tools or even removing your gloves on the slope you can play around with the fore/aft positioning by cheating the boot length scale etc - ie a bit forward on hard pack & a bit back for the soft stuff.

spyderjon, I guess bindings apart, you would rate the RS 800 and the Rev 80 pretty much equal?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Sorry but I've not skied either of them but on a narrow'ish stiff'ish regular camber ski don't under estimate the value of being able to adjust the mounting position for different conditions.

Sorry but the the Head PR11 don't need screwing to the rail, they just slide on and adjust as easily as the Z12

No, I don't think you're comparing like-with-like. The Salomon XT800 is the equivalent in their range of the Head Rev 80 Pro, not the softer RS. XT800 gets better reviews, too.

That's interesting as I had a Rev 80 in last week for service & it had a predrilled plate on it - kinda like a black version of the race plate on the Supershapes. The slide on/adjustable system is a good thing then.
