Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Salomon Equipe 3V Race Skis - opinions?

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just trying to get some opinions on "my"(provided by the Corps), race skis. I've done a search, and I think they may be last seasons model - they have two "bars" just in front of the toe binding. Just curious to what people may/may not think of them in order to warp my opinions Wink

I used to own a pair - the 2001 model. They were a fun ski, since then they've made them less and less race-like and more consumer oriented, which is a shame.

IanB, hired a pair in Champoluc last year. If you know the Monterosa ski area, it is predominantly a red piste network ranging from easy reds to a few medium blacks. Found these skis very easy and forgiving for all these conditions. Did not venture far off-piste as conditions as pretty grotty, but did a few mogul runs. All in all a pretty good ski for these type of conditions, seemingly equally at home carving long turns as well as short turns on tracks etc to control speed in narrow areas. Seemed pretty good on the icier bits, but that could also just be good servicing. On the few occasions I did give them a go in a pronlonged straight line schuss, they seemed pretty stable - certainly better than the Salomon street racer that would have flapped around like a trapped bird under similar circumstances.

The standard retail 10-3V is indeed a detuned race ski, if you want the full 9 yards you need the 10-3vLAB ski which is the race version. The main difference I've found when skiing both versions is the LAB has a real sting in the tail, if you let your weight drop back at the end of the turn and then fail to initiate the new turn on time and dynamically, the kick from the tail will punch you into trouble. Smile However if you time it right you'll drive into the new turn like a bat out of hell!

Both have fantastic grip on ice and are able to carve both tight and GS type turns while feeling calm and conrolled no matter how fast or slow you are going.

In moguls I find the lab too aggressive, the edges just won't let go in those "Oh **** I need to pivot fast moments" so the retail version is a better all mountain ski, but neither are very happy off piste, there just isn't enough surface area under foot.

My favourite piste skis in either version.
