Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Current French snow conditions described as "ridiculous" ...

... by MeteoFrance ... according to this report on PisteHors.com, which points out how thin the present cover is ... the possible consquences of the prevailing "zero isotherm" and "temperature gradient" in the snow.

According to their report, Val Thorens (Europe's highest ski station, but without extensive glacier skiing) is not expected to open until 26 November "at the earliest".

Hello DG

This is the kind of news that makes me wonder whether it is a good idea introducing youngsters to skiing. But then, was pre-season "will there be snow" stress around even in the 60s & 70s before the global climate change landslide? Puzzled

Looking here it'll be a while before any fronts come through with snow.

petermillar, I remember going to St Anton with my father in the early 1960s at New Year and seeing grass slopes. These early-season jitters are part of the game!

No although in Grenoble they never take the Xmas lights down, you can see them in August!

Just got a call from the missus - 2 hours to cover 8km on the motorway. Fat lot of good it did putting on the snow tires yesterday as no-one else seems to be equipped. Utter chaos, cars in every direction - obviously no-one watched the news last night saying to stay at home today.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

The tyre services people such as Point S were doing a roaring trade in Bourg yesterday. Still snowing now, just been out, at least all the 'mountain' people seem sorted.

On the flipside, I go away every April and always get fresh snow at some point in the week. That suggests a ski season, at worst, from November until April being 6 months, labeit its only part of two of the months.

I have been hearing on RFI that the Eiffel tower was covered with snow this morning. We got some snow in New England, too. It was interesting spending the day in Boston and seeing snow on those vehicles owned by lazy suburbanites. It was cold enough to blow snow, but they don't seem to be ready to do that on Mt. Bleu though.
