I am new to snowheads
I have brought my first pair of skis last years which are 150cm. I am finally going to be using them in a few weeks. I need to know if there are any good padded ski bags out there that would survive a plane ride. I currently have a non-padded ski bag but it too big. I am looking for a bag that can fit my skis, poles and boots. Please can you recommend good bags.

Tdaulphi, welcome.
I don't think you will find a bag that takes skis and boots. TBH, any ski bag wil do, you just need to buy the right length. Decathlon are quite good value. I don't think it needs to be padded as there's not so much that handlers can do to skis that they won't experience in the wild.

I bought a single padded bag for the PSB last year from Decathlon rather than take our double coffin bag. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/easy2travel-ski-bag-id_8187565.html
My skis are 153cm and can't remember the bag being too big, but I did stick my hairdryer/slipper boots/snow boots etc in as well.
I'm another that wouldn't put my boots in with my skis, I can survive with hire skis for a day if the skis are off loaded from the flight but hire boots no way.

Good point, Tdaulphi, you really are often best with your boots in hand luggage.

Thanks
I need to get a good quality bag that does cost a lot. I am really worried that my skis will get damaged by the handlers if the bag is not well padded. If there are no bags out there that take skis and Boots then what are best option for taking boots. I would like one which can accommodate my helmet as well. I don't want to put my boots in my suitcase.

We've probably all been there - brand new skis that we want to keep in pristine condition - but in reality it's using the skis that gets them looking worn. There's not much a baggage handler can do to your skis that would be worse than you actually skiing on them. They're built to take a fair amount of abuse. If the skis are held together (by the binding brakes and a velcro strap on one end) then they can't scratch each other. That only leaves the poles that could in theory scratch or be scratched by a ski. We (myself and my wife) use unpadded bags and a bit of bubble wrap around the bindings to protect them from any scratches. Never had a problem with this.
For boots we put our boots in our main luggage - big bags with rollers and handles. There's stacks of room in this type of luggage and the boots fit in easily. I fill my boots with underwear on the way out so they don't waste too much space.
If you don't want to put your boots in your suitcase then your choices are -
1. Buy a boot bag and put it in the hold. Might cost extra and boot bags seem to have a reputation for going missing.
2. Put your boots in your carry on luggage. Lots of folk do this, but some airlines/flights don't allow it.

Tdaulphi, There are many snowboard bags that'll take your skis, boots and a shedload of other kit . . . just watch your weights. The more robust the bag the more it will weigh. We used to be able to get away with everything + the kitchen sink in the big coffin bags . . . the number of overweight tags I've collected is laughable. But I think airlines are getting a bit canny now to this.
Don't worry excessively about damage, the first lift queue will do more than your average baggage handler.

I think a ski bag would be best as the snowboard bag would be an odd shape for the skis. Won't the skis move around a lot.

There's also a wee problem with weight. If I had 2 or three pais of skis, boots and assorted crap in one substantial (5-10kgs in and of itself) wheelie bag, i think I'd max my credit card on ove weight luggage charges...

Dare I suggest that the best bag for "ladies'" skis is the same bag you would use for men's.
Padding is a good idea, and they all have straps to tighten things snugly.
As for boots. I confess, even as a girly, I can go skiing for a week with my boots and helmet in an averaged sized suitcase, and plenty of clothing, hair dryer, makeup, and toiletries to keep me going for 7 days. Unless you're packing endless nightclub wear, a ball frock, shoes (apart from ski boots, don't most of us just have the pair we wear on the plane?..), you should have stacks of room!

I just use a cheap, thin ski bag and for protection at tips and bindings I wrap my skis up in my fleeces and salopettes.
I put my boots in my suitcase.

Tdaulphi, You use the rest of the space for fleeces etc. and the bags have internal straps to stop things rattling around.

Also, I used to use a separate boot bag but just found it to be more of a faff - dealing with 3 bags in the scrummage of a busy airport.

I think it would be better for me to have 3 separated bags. I will be going to France for 4 months to work so would need to take as much clothes and things to last.

Tdaulphi, what exactly is your budget?
What bag do you currently have, and which ones have you looked at but ruled out? That might help give people a better idea of what your looking for, and point you in the right direction.
Edit: the luggage section on Edge & Wax is a great place to start for some ideas, and a great company to order from. http://www.edgeandwax.co.uk/98/ski_and_snowboard_cases.aspx

Tdaulphi, then you need a board bag . . . simples. There are plenty of 156 length bags that are not too bulky, will hold plenty of clothing too and let you put your boots in your main bag. Two easy to handle rollers and more room than you will ever need to do a season.

Tdaulphi, Try this if you want a ski boot/helmet bag. http://www.decathlon.co.uk/e2t-boot-helmet-bag-id_8187564.html
Personally I have a small fold up holdall from Flylite that fits my ski boots that I us as a carry on. Helmet in main luggage & skis in ski bag. When the main bag comes off the carousel at Geneva the ski boots are then put in the big bag so I only need to handle that and the ski bag about airport/bus/car.

I have a K2 padded one that I got from Ski Bartlett a couple of years ago. Wasn't expensive, maybe £30 or so. Good internal and external straps to cinch everything together and plenty of room for poles and a few bits of clothing besides. Boots go in my suitcase, like muppet, can't bear the thought of hire boots!!

Tdaulphi, Well . . . it appears to be out of stock and no wheels. Seriously give some thought to a wheeled bag as pulling a bag around airport/train/bus/city centre etc. is much easier than carrying said same.
As in most things you do get what you pay for . . . except at the two ends of the scale (dirt cheap tat and overpriced tat) Atomic skis don't usually put their name to cheap and nasty gear so if that is a pukka Atomic bag then that is an excellent price . . . give them a call and talk to them directly about its features and when it might be back in stock.

Princess?, A 'lady' doesn't require her hand to be held during the minutia of conspicuous consumption . . . I like women to have a mind, and use it, of their own. I do NOT want to "win . . ." a woman . . . that's a horrible allegory.
