Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Meribel/Mottaret ABS equipment hire

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi, anyone knows if it is possible to rent an ABS bag in Mottaret from any of the rentals? Me and my friends will be "venturing" an off-piste class for the first time, so would like to be properly equiped. Did an on-line research of most ski hire places but could not see ABS on offer for a rent. Before starting calling all the shops, thought of asking on here - any experience with the ABS hire in Mottaret?

In five seasons there (until last year), I never heard of anyone in Meribel/Mottaret offering this. There used to be a shop renting out shovel and transceiver packs but it's no more.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

As I am new to the off-piste - is ABS equiment 'a must have' or 'good to have'? As we will be going with a school instructor I trust it should be relatively safe (but still, this is off-piste).

'Good to have' (unless you're doing an advanced course with a guide I'd be surprised if the instructor has one).

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

OK thanks a lot for the advice. When skiing Jan 2013 in Tignes noticed that Evolution2 ski school provided ABS equipment to all customers, so I assumed it is done by default by all schools. I would hire an ABS bag if it would be available just for the peace of mind, but could not find it so far.

That's a very good service on their part. Shame they don't operate in Meribel, it might encourage the others to do so.
