Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Skiing after recovery from operation

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
We usually ski at Christmas, this year for many reasons we've not yet booked (thankfully). Earlier this week the OH was suffering from a bad stomach/chest so went to the doctors, who told her to go straight up the hospital. Long story short..... within 4 hours of arriving at the hospital they'd whipped her appendix out. Thankfully it was in a more reasonable state than it could have been so they could remove it with keyhole surgery.

We're still hopeful to go at Christmas, but will see how the recovery goes and book last minute if we need to. She's been told she can't drive for 3-4 weeks.

Just wondering if going at Christmas might be a bit foolish. I wouldn't want us to get out there and the OH spends all week struggling, or does any further harm. Anyone had this op, if so how long until you were comfortable doing relatively strenuous activity/skied?

hammerite, Went skiing 3 weeks after a hernia op. Then went skiing 10 weeks after a triple bypass. (I was told not to drive for 8 weeks!).

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

No, provided her doctor is happy, there shouldn't be any problem, especially as she didn't have a big cut. Make sure she has time to concentrate on rehab and getting strong. Not too much of the ghastly Christmas shopping. Not had that operation but I went skiing 6 - 7 weeks after a hysterectomy (not keyhole, unfortunately) and 2 months after a fractured pelvis but in both cases I had done a fair amount of work to ensure I was strong enough.

That's why you could ski, and most prolly why you can ski!

Thanks both.

6-7 weeks after a hysterectomy sounds very soon pam w, as does 10 after triple bypass! So hopefully all is ok. She is fairly fit and tends to ski very relaxed so hopefully as you say should be ok.

Don't worry pam w, none of that Christmas shopping for her. Although we have been having words today as I think she's trying to do too much already, even though she's hardly eaten anything yet.

After an appendix if she recovers normally she should be up and about and able to ski by Christmas, . However she may not feel fit enough to ski from 9 am till the last lift closes, but give her lots of breaks, but she should be well fit to ski. I gave birth in late October and ski ied in January, so six weeks, it was a c section so I didn't do the whole long day but I had a lot of rests while my family did a run and came back for me. I also held off on some of the very shaky runs. But I still got to ski.

Not sure if it is me or you who is mathematically challenged Puzzled . But as November and December intervene I think it must be at least eight weeks.

hammertite
MrsT Bar was hillwalking less than a month after c section I doubt a keyhole appendix should stop you from skiing,
