Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Cheap beginner lessons in Les Arcs

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Me and my wife will be in Peisey this winter and our family want to come visit us. Some of them have not skiied before, and pricing up lessons + lift passes quickly gets expensive. Plan-Peisey ESF have a 'beginners pack' that has 6 days lessons + plan peisey lift pass for 285euro which is OK, but only appears to run sunday to friday. Ideally they will travel out mid week (January) to get the cheapest flights. Does anyone know of any local small resorts that have cheaper lift passes and a ski school that we could drive to? I'm thinking of a couple of days of lessons in a limited resort and then get Plan Peisey / Les Arcs passes for the remaining days.

Thanks!

If they will be staying in your accommodation, mid week fares could make very good sense, but if they have to find their own they might find it difficult. Also, the cheapest ski lessons are group lessons, and they start on Sundays for obvious reasons. If they travel mid-week they might have to pay for private lessons, which eat into the savings on airfares.

How many beginners will you have? If there are a few of them, and likely to learn at a similar rate, you might be pleasantly surprised at the cost of booking private ski lessons, and just buying lift passes for the relevant hours. But unless they are fast learners they might struggle if they only have "a couple of days lessons".

As Pam says, have a look at private lessons instead of group. When I worked in Les Arcs a couple of years back it was definitely an option worth looking at, so long as at least 2 want to take lessons. As I recall ESF were extremely reasonable and it worked out that, based upon 2 people learning, the same price for a week of group lessons would pay for 4 lots of 2 hour private instruction.

Of course it does rely upon the learners being of an approximately equal standard but that's certainly what I'd look to do.
